It is an interesting topic. I do have mine serviced iaw the schedule but I guess that's to protect residuals rather than because that's what it needs. I would much prefer that AM put some science behind the service schedule rather than create work for Service Departments. If a car has done less mileage than warrants a change of oil and filter, why force us into doing it? I have never looked at the batch details for new oil going in but I bet that, often, it is more than 12 months since production. I accept that some things such as brake fluid need to be changed based on the calendar but the majority should be based on usage. Mean time between failure is known for components and the properties of liquids are known (and I don't think any deteriorate below spec in less than at least 2 years if kept in the correct storage conditions) so it seems to me that simply to demand an annual service is more about keeping the Service Department in work than it is about what the car needs.
I accept we have high (ish in my case!) performance cars but other manufacturers can base service intervals on the useage as reported by the on-board computer - computer says low mileage all fine, computer says high mileage get a service or computer says low mileage but fluids need to be changed - and they can factor in how the car has been driven. We should be able to have the same but with an added message:
computer says 'YOU ARE NOT USING YOUR CAR ENOUGH GET OUT AND DRIVE IT'

What a needlessly personal thing to say. It was a perfectly sensible question and didn't deserve that kind of response. If you are looking to cut corners because you can't afford it, then maybe you need to re-evaluate your priorities. taylor wasn't being 'needlessly personal' at all.

On a previous car I owned I done all the servicing myself as quite capable and after catching a few dealers out for not doing what was on the schedule. My trust of actually getting what I paid for had gone out the window.
What's to even say your oil you take doesn't even get put in unless you go and watch them

Yes they are performance cars and do need servicing but every year if only doing 3-5 k I think not... Unless raged for that many miles. So your engine /chassis is built to do 3-4 times what most of us do annually if at all. Or even if we do hit it's upper limits it would be for seconds.
It's certainly wouldn't put me off if a car had low miles and hasn't been serviced every year.
Lets pay for hardly used oil and brake fluid for no reason and a dab of grease on the door hinges etc
I'd hope I'd feel /or see myself or my trusted Mot guy would pick up any other issues.
I do agree though in some people's minds the stamp in the book means the extra premium too. But is it as well looked after as partially stamped one. Not in my eyes.

Why not get the dealer to do a "inspection service" every other year. You still get the book stamped and they will advise if anything is urgent or will wait until another 4k miles are under your belt. If something needs doing, you just get that done and leave the filters / oils etc until they have been used a bit

all will service to the schedule with genuine parts, often with a little extra care and attention that you don't get from some dealers and usually at 30-40% off dealer price, just due to labour rate differences
