And with her younger sister...........

Hi Little Donkey, she looks just as stunning as the day I first saw her at Brands Hatch earlier this year. With the Volante's I love to see photo's of them with their tops off.

Here's one of my 7 V.V.

SHE wanted a new kitchen in HER house.
I saw the opportunity to utilise the old units to store/hide some of MY tools in HER garage.

My garage is for hiding when hoovering/dishes etc is mentioned

Cheers...

This thread showed up just a little bit too early....but:

Getting rid of those nose cone stone chips, a bubble over a rear arch and around the rear screen buttress...It never ends.

DB7 Pilot.

Mark, what prep are they doing on your car for the respray?
Is it a full respray with bumpers etc removed?

Better half is thinking of freshening up the auld girl with a full respray this winter.

And great to see DB7 threads revived on this forum, too. I'll have to get some topless shots sorted to spice things up a bit.

289, your quotes sound about right for a full respray with some panels off etc. This is a freshen up after four years of daily, all weather use, I'm putting it into a garage for limited good weather use from now on seeing as we're nearing 100k miles. It's time the old girl went into semi-retirement.

I'm paying around £1400 for a respray above the waistline, (the lower was done just a few years ago), this excludes the rear bumper. The issues with the bodywork were nearside rear arch just starting to bubble, this rust at the bottom of the windscreen pillar:
This was barely a pimple under the paint and I thought of leaving it, glad I didn't.

And a strange stippling under the paint near the rear edge of the boot deck, just above the badge:

The tarting up and paint is taking a week and will include undersealing with a 50/50 mix of Dinitrol and Waxoyl, which to my mind is the most essential part of the job. Hope this helps.

When made, Aston made the mind boggling decision not to underseal or protect the underside of the car at all, but generally no better or worse than others of similar age.

Subframes, chassis rails, underside (esp 2000 Vantage as said above), inner wings, and (if the windscreen has been replaced by someone 'not in the know') bullhead:

Then there's the rear window surround, rear wheel arches, ....

What scary costs are involved with running these? I was told before on par with M5's of the same era etc... sound right? I don't often see people on here complaining about expensive repairs when it comes to the DB7...

Hi sparks E39,

It is difficult to answer your question directly, as I wouldn't know what the cost of maintaining as M5 would be. However, it is true that the DB7 Vantage is not the cheapest car to keep on the road. I tend to budget circa £750 - £1,000 / annum, for regular servicing costs and hope that nothing serious goes wrong with the cars and so far all's been well. In addition, I have chosen to make extra funds available for improvements to my cars, both of which were in reasonable condition when acquired, i.e. undersides cleaned back and re-protected, paintwork refreshed from stone chips, rear wheel arch rust treated and new carpet mats. Nonetheless, if you are able and minded to do some work on the cars yourself, as many are, you can keep costs to a more reasonable level, unfortunately, I am not that hands on and tend to limit my involvement to washing, polishing and driving.

The other expenses: Road Tax £220 from memory, Insurance circa £400 (mileage cap 5,000) and fuel. As far as the fuel is concerned I use Super Unleaded, but the engines do run on unleaded should you prefer, the cost is clearly dependent on how the cars are driven, I don't go mad when behind the wheel (well not that often), so probably average around 14 M.P.G. in the Volante and slightly less in the G.T.

If you are thinking about getting yourself a DB7 Vantage I would certainly recommend reading the AMOC Forum - Bloxham section, where you will find an excellent thread relating to buying one of these great cars.

Thanks for that. Not in the position to get one yet but potentially in a few years. I'll be away a lot with work so won't be driving any car I own much. I can justify low mpg doing 3-5k a year, just have to weigh up other costs when the time comes. At the moment I have very little financial responsibilities, that could all change.
