Don't agree with the above at all. There were factors in the advert that led to me offering less than asking price. The advert for the car was misleading (there were no winter wheels, just the tyres and they didn't cost anywhere near £2600 ! , there were no clear rear lenses and the interior photos are of an updated interior and not the actual interior in the car - the actual car seats did not have stitching down the centre, there is also a large scratch on the rear quarter panel - car had been keyed recently and was not mentioned in the ad).
I still thought the car was reasonably priced and we spoke about the price , the seller wanted 48 hours to think about it - I agreed with him he may get more money for the car (he was pushing for a quick sale), but that i wasn't prepared to pay more. I then wrote him an email a few hours later on returning home detailing the reasons i had given to him in person and I also spoke to him again on the phone that same evening. I was happy to wait 48 hours for his answer, he however was happy to take my offer after 24 hours.

...and then he went back on his word ! It was him who agreed to the sale within 24 hours after i was happy to give him 48 hours to decide !

Ok, so in fact the car wasn't as advertised - earlier interior, no winter wheels, no clear lenses, scratch. That's a different car. That explains why it didn't sell straight away.

Still a reasonable buy, but not quite as much a bargain as it seemed.

Yes , that's the whole point sorry, he agreed to the deal And confirmed in email ! I thought I had bought the car and was moving funds around accordingly.

I'm not upset that I lost out because of price , I am upset because I lost out after he agreed to the deal !

I just think it shows poor form , I wouldn't do that myself.
Sorry but I agree with others - a) should have left a deposit and b) shouldn't have chipped the price.

The outstanding finance is not a problem.....I recently purchased a vehicle with outstanding finance. You go to collect the car and call the finance company they give you a settlement figure which you pay over the phone with a debit card.......you give the seller the balance of the money
What if the outstanding finance is more than the selling pricescratchchin

That was the case when I bought my car.... Seller was asking £xxxxx..... Outstanding finance was £xxxxx + £3k

If he agreed in an email you probably have a case against him.........the email was confirmation of a verbal contract and you have every right to be pissed off

That's not a problem he would have to pay the extra on his debit card before you paid the balance.........but a bit crazy !

I saw that ad this morning and called up this afternoon and was told the car has been sold!

It was previously up at £37k last month so am thinking there must be reasons for him to have dropped the price by £5k!

I wanted to figure this our for myself but would have been completely put off if I arrived to find a car not as advertised!

Not sure you should be upset pal, plenty of more fish in the sea :-)

That's the part that has annoyed me. I totally understand someone offered more money, but he had agreed the deal and then went back on it within 24 hours. As for the email, phone numbers etc and information collected - binned the lot now !
See people talking about finance - There was £25k outstanding on the car finance , I was expecting the finance company details Monday morning, then was going to pay off the finance and would pay the balance to his account.

There will be other cars........ smile

What would you have done if you paid the £25k to the finance company and never heard from him!?!? How can you pay £25K to a finance company without a V5 in your hand!?!

I would have done the actual transfer whilst sat at the Sellers house - paid the extra £25 for immediate transfer and then had an email from the finance company AND spoke to them on the phone to confirm the finance was now clear on the car.

See why you asked now , yes he would send me the details but I planned to 'set up' the transfer and pay when picking up the car.

The finance house would return your money....

As above.. The car I bought had £3k above selling price still on finance....

I contacted finance Co (Lombard) in this case and asked that exact question.... Ie what if I pay you £xxxxx and then the seller doesn't pay the outstanding £3k??

They sent me an email stating that if they hadn't recieved the £3k from the owner of the car by close of business on a certain date.... They would bank transfer my money back to my account..smile

It actually turned out ok in that Hpi were involved as well, and they also contacted me to say the car was now clear of finance and I could arrange with seller to collect...

Having just reading though this thread I think the OP had a lucky escape!

The seller was obviously trying to be deceitful from the start with his misleading ad, who knows what else was being hidden, dodgy mech's or dodgy HPI?

If it was me and found it not the car as advertised, I would have walked.

This just reads stay clear and as others have said there's other cars out there that are above board and honestly advertised.
