What's the difference between the Vantage black's:

Storm
Carbon
Onyx

Am I right in thinking the Onyx is not metallic?

Thanks smile

They are all metallic - I think

Storm has a red metallic fleck in it
Carbon has a blue fleck and was/is a BMW colour?
Onyx has a gold fleck in it

I think the only non metallic colour is Jet black but always ready to be corrected.

your such a big help bins, what would I do without your wisdom and knowledge? biggrin

Back to my question - onyx looks a bit flat to me but maybe I need to see it more closely in the flesh!

My 2006 V8 was Onyx and definitely had a red fleck in it - depending upon lighting conditions (as always) reflected how flat/metallic it appeared.

There's Marron black too, with a bronze sort of fleck in it. Looks brilliant when the sun hits it.

Does sound nice but I don't think there are many V12V in Marron black though.

When clean, Onyx looks fantastic.

It's definitely metallic.

Carbon black isn't the same black as the BMW version, it's a lot darker. Onyx has a larger metal flake in the paint, though not as big as ceramic grey. As mentioned, storm has a red flake in it and looks the nuts when the sun is on it, however, it's the softest paint of the 3, so you have to take care with it.

I'll get some pics up in a bit

To be honest, I'm not sure. It's just very easy to marr the paint. A rough cloth swirl it up good and proper.

Ok but I agree a real bugger to stop the swirls etc hence the reason I'm having it fettled annualy.

Just to be awkward could i ask paddy328 if he has detailed a morning frost aston and what are you thoughts on this paint? Thanks!

Yep. Of course ive detailed a MF car. I would say that thanks to many of you on here, there is no other detailer outside the dealer network that has/details more Astons than I do.

I love morning frost, one of my all time favourite colours. Its a lot more forgiving than the softer blacks, but like all Astons, once the sanding marks and general swirls and wash marring are polishing out, you can see the flake pop even more and lets face it, that's what makes the aston paintwork look so good. Just look at simons v12.

As for having the DBS detailed once a year, that's a good idea, though if you opt for a sealant to be applied rather than a wax, there is less chance of you putting the marks back in.

Hope that helps a bit.
