And me too actually. I grew up as Bobby (I'm named after an uncle Bobby Douglas that died during the war). Family and anyone that I grew up with still use it rather than Bob. Weirdly Rob, I don't particulary like it when anyone, usually someone that doesn't know me very well, calls me Rob, to my ears its neither Robert nor Bob. But then there are 'Roberts' I've known for years that I call Rob and everyone else calls Rob, never give it a second thought there,,,,daft really isn't it Rob.

PS: If ever I get called Robert, it means trouble is heading my way.

Back on topic; My best mates car (Freelander II) cuts out by itself whenever we stop at a junction or traffic lights, I find it distracting. Whatever the benefits might be, I'd rather it stopped doing it.

On the BMWs there is a switch to disable it - on the modern Beamers the switch is actually attached to the Start Button

You are right though, Bobby, at some stage AM are going to have to do something about CO2

Audi have a stop/start system but it had proved a little unreliable
Ironically the yanks (Chrysler) had cylinder deactivation since 2004
Interestingly Merc have had it since 2001!
