Rockingham exclusive Track day for your Aston,,,,,March 21st
Discussion
Something has cropped up that I hadn't anticipated by way of our Rockingham fun day being seen as a commercial opportunity by businesses involved with the maintenance and or supply/fitting of various AM upgrade equipment etc.
Whilst I fully appreciate the business acumen wishing to be applied, for our very first privateers 'fun day' I think we should on this occasion, ask that we would rather not see any professional or semi-professional cars (on car advertisements etc) or drivers being involved.

Come on Steve, that is totally ludicrous. Just one set
Brakes is what I destroy, so it is rumoured
In seriousness chaps, tyres need to have some meat on them and so do the brake pads. Any low pads need replacing as their performance is not as good when they are near to the limit, but more importantly you don't want your day curtailed with a pad warning light
You will find that the outer edges of tyres will get a particularly good srubbing
Obviously oil & water goes without saying.
Thanks for the heads up Steve/Cockers. For those with Track experience I imagine they have already given some thought to the points you raise. For the rest of us, maybe we should take heed and proceed with caution. For myself its not about breaking any track records, more about letting Vesuvius blast out, legally and safely opening the stable door on her 580 horses, giving them their heads, enjoying the sensation of her acceleration at full power and hearing her roar,,,its going to be brilliant. Locktons provide track insurance as part of their standard cover. Perhaps for those that don't have such cover, they might offer a group buy for a day of cover.
Good morning everyone,,,,I'll give Locktons a call in the morning. Please note: I did say to Annereed that after the 30th November she could offer any places remaining to AMOC members.
I'll confirm that to her again today.

How about we don't call it a 'Track Day' which is what the insurance company would jump on. Why don't we call it a 'Driver Awareness Training Day' and see if the insurance company take a different view.
We could say that all those attending will receive professional driver training on the day and that the whole event is based on 'Driver Training' rather than a traditional 'Track Day'.
If each attendee does at least one lap with a professional driver then we wouldn't be telling any lies.
Just a thought....
You may have a point David. What has already been declared on here has been declared but I'll pitch the enquiry along the lines you mention and see how they respond. I may be wrong but most insurance companies are not that stupid. Call it what you like, your car will be going round a track so it is a track day. Misrepresenting the facts to an insurance company is not the brightest idea!
Nor am I stupid Simon,,,why I said what I said about that, that has been declared. I also feel there might be an area of uncertainty, as David has pointed out, where we might have some jiggle room. I'll not compromise myself in anyway, nor would I anyone else. I'll be back with Locktons take on things tomorrow. burntout said:
That's a very good point..... Insurance will be around £1K, I had a quote before I went to Silverstone, I chose not to have any... Tyres, I have a set of wheels for track days 18" and a supply of sticky track rubber... Brake pads will die, that's around £1K
But What will be the Gentlemanly agreement amongst us if you hit another car?? Personally I cant see this happening..... Am getting really excited about this now...... To the point where I think I might just keep the car!!!!
Just a thought, I wonder if all 30 cars went with the same insurance company?? I can smell a deal coming on???
I have had a dickie bird with Locktons, not a runner guys, far too complicated. Therefore, I would like to propose that each of us, individually organise cover thru' your current insurer for the single Track Day cover. As regards the concerns of brake pad warning lights, for this event, Bamford Rose have offered to attend and will provide a basic service FOC. On the day, my own approach will be to drive Vesuvius with gusto, when I can I'll be squeezing the loud pedal as hard as I dare but not to the extent of ripping the tread of the tyres nor burning out the brakes and above all, avoiding any contact! I understand there is an overtaking rule: On the left only and with consent (We will all receive a pre-event brief). I know I'm going to enjoy the day and sincerely hope you all do too.

Don't reckon I will want to thrash my pride-and-joy around the track, but wondered if I could come along and meet up?
You don't have to Foxy, drive it just as you want to, we're not racing each other, its for fun and that means you please yourself. Firstly what appeals to me about the day is being able to legally open her up and let her perform, if only briefly, in a way she was designed to perform. Yes I hope at the end of the day I'll have improved my track time but equally learned at lot more about what Vesuvius has to offer and how to enjoy that more safely. Secondly, the point you mention, the camaraderie, you just know it'll be epic. There will be those that wish only to spectate, all are welcome. If the day goes well, I see no reason why another AM day couldn't be organised later in the summer.

Burntout, as you were. Having just touched base with our 'probable' camera man, his availability will require a day off work, which at present he can't fully commit too. So if your man can, please book him for the day, video too if poss. Just a thought.....

Bob, I sent you a link to a Automotive & Events cameraman via email on Monday/Tuesday. Do you want me to see if he is available for the day and get some prices?
I did look at his site but was waiting confirmation from Rango. We now know Rango, is no go, so, yes please David. Once we have 30 names, I'll ask each to pm me, I'll provide my name and postal address details to which each can post a cheque made payable to me. Once I have a cleared cheque from everyone on the list, I'll pay Rockingham. We need to have that process complete by the first week of Feb.
Firstly a Happy New Year to all Astonauts wherever you may be.
In order to help you enjoy 2014 just that little bit more, there are still 6 places left (to reach the max 30 cars)for you to get your name down for the Rockingham track day Friday 21st March. We must make the booking deposit by the middle Jan, so please get your name down pronto.
