You're a lot smarter than you look chum. Car will need MOT and Service in Feb so could get it listened to then. Could just use my stethoscope I suppose.......
One of your "spanners at work" ought to have a DB meter, I've got one some where

Fraid that is out then: frown
The only way you can do it is to back off at certain parts of the track or short shift using the car with exhaust flaps shut. Also do the static noise test with the flaps shut wink

It can be done as I did this once whistle but then got BR to get the noise down to 99dB with the flaps open.
Have just put the dog n bone down from having a chat with the Track Day manager at Rockingham about Db's of the other kind. I explained the concerns expressed by Rob and Mikey re noise levels and being above the track limits, emphasising the exhaust mods that a number of our cars have fitted. His response in summary was to express reassurance that it is very unlikely there will be a 'noise' issue for our group. Apparently the charges he has quoted are for cars up to 105 db, the higher rating.

He mentioned by comparison, that under this same rating they have up to 50 motor cycles racing and that race car testing is also carried out,,,,,,,I don't think there will be any problem at all with our wonderful Aston Martin symphony. ears ,,,,,oh yes. bow

Good to hear
So can they guarantee no black flags for cars triggering the track side detectors?
105 Db is a static test which is easy enough to "adjust to" as Cockers says
They have a camera system that triggers at 95Db and the local council have two boundary monitors triggering at 80 & 85 Db
If he's guaranteeing none of these will be an issue for the modded car then great!

Mikey I have asked the question and have received the following reply:

Hi Bob

Firstly there is no 100% guarantee but I can offer this response;

The static on the day will be 105db and drive by 98db. Both of the boundary monitors are set to 85db

To put the noise level into perspective, all of our standard test days and most of our club race events adhere to the above limits. If fully prepped race cars can run on the circuit with a full grid of 40 cars I would be very surprised to see issues with your cars.

Our bike track days are also operated to these limits with many bikes sporting aftermarket exhausts.

We run all of our Rockingham track days with a static of 98db and drive by of 90db, I have seen everything from Audi R8’s to Impreza’s on these “quite” days and are still never had to refuse access to the circuit or send any driver home for being too loud.

Hope this helps – if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me

Kind regards

Will

If by any chance you don't get the 30 from within Pistonheads, I'd be happy to advertise it on the AMOC forum, if that would help.

Hi Anne, in the interests of promoting our forum ethos of entente cordiale, I'm sure that is an offer we welcome.

Those in favour say 'Aye'. yes

Molly and I would like to attend this Track Day. I have a concern though. Will Pearl be deemed a bit loud? I know all these race circuits have noise limitations. I would hate to get there and be told that Pearl was too naughty to play. To be honest Molly and I have never noticed any unwelcome decibels wink Just a glorious V8 Burble!
Rob, Molly, Mark et al, hope your noise level concerns have been allayed by Wills explanation and you'll be joining us for the fast and furious fun on 21st. smile

Annereed has requested, should we have places, we invite AMOC members,,,,my thoughts are that whatever shortfall remains after the 30th Nov, we open the offer at that point.

PS,,,Ed, Andy, Lee, where are you??

Bob,

I'm still not convinced about the noise limitations. Molly and I would love to show off Pearl's Increased BHP and vastly improved handling ( Thanks BR) . We remain needed to be convinced. I would hate to turn up and be relegated to being an observer. Apparently Pearl can sound quite vocal smile

Rob, Go on eBay and type in 'DB Meter'. There are some for around £20 that record between 30 - 130db and can download the results to a laptop. £20 well spent and you could have some fun with it at future meets.

Rob, just turn up anyway.

You will be banned for your inappropriate overtaking manoeuvres anyway.

Hell, in for a pound, as they say...... smile
