Bob,

I'm still not convinced about the noise limitations. Molly and I would love to show off Pearl's Increased BHP and vastly improved handling ( Thanks BR) . We remain needed to be convinced. I would hate to turn up and be relegated to being an observer. Apparently Pearl can sound quite vocal smile

Rob, Go on eBay and type in 'DB Meter'. There are some for around £20 that record between 30 - 130db and can download the results to a laptop. £20 well spent and you could have some fun with it at future meets.

Rob, just turn up anyway.

You will be banned for your inappropriate overtaking manoeuvres anyway.

Hell, in for a pound, as they say...... smile

Of course its your shout Rob but I can't imagine Pearl could be louder than any of the following:

"To put the noise level into perspective, all of our standard test days and most of our club race events adhere to the above limits. If fully prepped race cars can run on the circuit with a full grid of 40 cars I would be very surprised to see issues with your cars.

Our bike track days are also operated to these limits with many bikes sporting aftermarket exhausts.

We run all of our Rockingham track days with a static of 98db and drive by of 90db, I have seen everything from Audi R8’s to Impreza’s on these “quite” days and are still never had to refuse access to the circuit or send any driver home for being too loud."

and still be road legal,,,confused I hope you and Mikey make it.

Only the road legal aftermarket cans, no full systems or race cans, they always need a baffle. 98db is pathetically low.

You understand these things George, to be honest I don't. Will did say they have "never had to send anyone home", so 'pathetic' might be a tad strong. Are you coming down George?

No I just get annoyed about how low noise limits are getting, usually because some prick moves next to a circuit then complains about noise. 98db is extremely low. A lot of standard road bikes and cars are a lot louder than that. 105db is a fair limit imo.

Okay George and thanks.

In the absence of any previous Rockingham Track day experience of my own and in a final attempt to provide the clearest possible guide for us all, I have asked Will for his assurance that all will be well for us come the day, this is what he said:

Hi Bob

105db is the static, 98db is drive by.

Our drive by is over 10 metres away from the circuit, if he (George) is comparing us to other circuits then the drive by will vary depending on how far the monitor is form the racing line.

Again putting the limits into context – Formula 3 run all of their test days to this limit, I would be extremely surprised if their cars are louder than a Formula 3, race prepped car.

I reiterate that we have never asked a vehicle leave the circuit for being too loud. If he will pass the static, he will pass the drive by.

I would be more than happy to invite owners to the venue for a noise test and if activity permits, a drive past the monitor. By all means forward my details on for me to speak to any concerned party.

I hope this helps, if I can provide any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me

Kind regards
Will

Like I said....£20 on a Db meter is money well spent and it clears up all the issues. Stand 10 meters away from your car and give it some revs to establish some kind of reading.

Standing 0.5m @ 45 degrees from the exhaust would give a better indication.

Thats all it will it give a reading. Won't be accurate. Will give a completely different reading to a professional meter.

I assume the official method of noise check on a bike event is the same as a car event then
