The disappointment is there is nothing new about the car. The N400 was 20 bhp better and probably the best of the 4.3s, the N420 was a bit better than the original but as the "book" puts it, only really worth it if you want the options. This one has gone the opposite way and made a cheaper car with bits missing and is just a "delete that, add a bit of paint".

Its never going to be a sought after car as a limited edition. And although it has the 430bhp engine, its not an "S". Spec an N430 to the same level as a "S" and in 2 years, the "S" will be worth more IMHO.

Taking an optimistic view, and trying not to judge a book by its cover (because I'm no expert), Evo gave it a very positive response this week. To try and extend my optimism, I recall the Porsche 968 CS not getting good press originally, but then turning out to be a classic drivers car. Similar circumstances to the N430, Porsche had no money at the time. Needing to improve and launch models without too much funding really only gives you an option of implementing configuration tweaks learnt from racing (which seems to be the sales pitch). And this can result in great things. Whether it's an improvement over the other models, I don't know...but I'm trying to be optimistic on a bright sunny morning that is begging to be driven in!

On the downside...I had the misfortune if seeing a tweet from Jonathan Woss, who seems to love it! (I think he is after the same deal that Daniel Cwaig has with with Aston)

Happy driving to all!

A fairly balanced review but this is the bit that counts "the rest of the Vantage package, such as the driving experience - which is, let’s face it, the most important bit of the lot – remain world class. You’re looking at one of the sweetest-handling cars you can buy. And that will never age." smile

More here

and here

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/aston-martin/v8-vanta...

Conclusions all much the same.

I am at the factory tomorrow so mught see one or two in the flesh.

I ordered a Vantage S in the end as it was a better package for me personally. Looking forward to it now should be by end July.

^^^^ Apparently this Pistonheads reviewer wasn't aware that the SP-10 was already available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Also, re: comparing the Vantage to the F-Type Coupe - I think the Jag has great performance and tech but it does seem overpriced. My dealer sells both brands and we can't understand why you would choose the Jag over an Aston Martin when they are almost the same money. I was told by them that the depreciation is so bad on the Jag that even though they cost the same new, the Jag will take only 3 years to get to 50% value while it will take the AM 6 years to get there.

Pretty good write up, but imagine how good that car would look if it didn't have those horrible yellow bits on it. Will they look good in one year's time, let alone five or ten?

Any prospective buyers should consider a V8S. Much better package with lots of carbon, plus equally dated dash and cr@p satnav. Don't care, it's brilliant in every respect that matters.

^^^^ The CC100 doesn't have the same alloys as the N430/GT. He was referring to the graphite color scheme.

I completely disagree on the paint job.

The yellow bits on a green paint job will be instantly understood by anyone with an understanding or interest in Aston motor racing history. I think it looks terrific.

If I was having one of these, I would certainly have the yellow lipstick, mirrors and detail on a metallic green car. I might leave the yellow window and roof line off, mind you.

A green manual Aston N430 with some yellow detailing is a car to keep forever IMO.
