Next thing to check (before you spend any more money) is that the battery is fully charged, that the car is charging properly and you have no battery drain with the car standing. A new battery from the motor factors shelf is unlikely to 100% charged, if it's been sat there for a while.

With the radio etc on my Vanquish will run the battery so flat that it won't start the car in about 10 minutes. I did this a few times after I first had it playing with the radio and sat nav.

A new fully charged battery should show about 12.7 volts.

If this drops overnight then you have a battery drain somewhere, a light staying on or faulty tracker etc. I believe the tracker still draws current even if the subscription is not active.

When running the car charging should show around 14.5 volts, this varies due to battery condition, temperature etc. These are all easily checked with a volt meter and cost nothing.

And ..... Its back !

All working fine until Saturday then now wont lock at all again !!!!

I just cant understand it ! After the battery swap all was perfect and on Saturday morning all well, took the car out to pick something up and had to come home as it wont *&"£*&^!"£!*&kin lock again ...

That 911 is looking a whole lot more tempting again !

So ... history ...

Soft reset ( fuse pull ) made them better
Full reset / new battery initially made them perfect
24 hours later they wont lock at all again

Any ideas before I go and buy a can of petrol !

Cheers

Ian
Don't forget the matches hehe

Maybe it's just best to invest in 2 new modules, at least the job is done and you will know that it will last for a few years with no issues.

Maybe an Indie could fix at a more keen rate than a main dealer? Surely any competent auto electrician can sort for a fraction of the cost.

Its beginning to look like modules ...

Battery is on a trickle charger so is nice and topped up when I tried it, even changed the charger to make sure it was working OK too

I can change the modules my self but its just a pain to do so ... checked out all the electrical stuff ( that is what I do - well did, now is sit at a desk ! - for a living as we build specialist vehicles )

OK so we are now satisfied that the battery is good. I would try one module at a time and I would also be looking for breaker stock as opposed to new AM dealer prices. By the sound if it you are more than capable of changing these out yourself, there's £100 an hour labour saving immediately.

Ian,

I did PM you last week but I don't know if you've seen it or not, but there's currently a set of door modules on eBay.

Sorry to say, but this never was about the battery. Aston has a service bulletin regarding the door lock modules. They had a bad supplier in Spain and all their modules will eventually do this. They got a new supplier and the bulletin describes how to update to the new modules. Both of mine were replaced under warranty. Unfortunately, they were replaced with the same kind and now, 2 years later, the replacements are starting to act up as well. If you get replacements, make sure you what you are getting.

hi,

any update with this issue?
I have the same problem..
I was wondering why not buying an old door module on internet and have it installed (instead of changing both modules...)?
Would the "old" one need a reflashing you think?

thanks for the advise

I thought I had fixed it with a hard reset ( battery off ) and a new battery but it came back after 24 hours ... mine is exactly the same as yours, apparently the car thinks that the door is not shut and so opens the lock again

I have no more progress so far Im afraid, just due to lack of time and another car to play with ! My next move was to take the door car off and see if I can disconnect the ' door shut ' sensor and see if this makes it better

Apparently you have to buy the modules in pairs and change them together ( they are handed ) and then they both have to be programmed to work together ...a right pain especially as they are not cheap, my MD quoted me £ 1,200 all in for the modules, fitting, programming and VAT ... a bargain !

Any more ideas / news would be welcome by me also !

Cheers Ian

CHANGE THE DOOR LOCK MODULES.

It was in your first post. This is the cause, the dealer knows it, we know it, you know it.

If you want to halve the labour costs, go to an independent.

This fault is covered in depth in SB0304V2
I can email a copy of the bulletin if you need it.

Yeti/other, would you have by any chance the new software that requires the new modules?

SPEND LOTS OF MONEY - a great help !

I'm not done yet ... As this is a common problem it seems I am determined to find a low cost cure for this, forking out £ 650 on bits to fix a simple fault does not seem like good value to me ...

With a bit of time I will get there I am sure #

Any update on this? My drivers door lost all power (lock, mirror and window) whilst I was driving along - reset the module by pulling the fuse but a week later its died again. Any help greatly appreciated.

Rather unsurprisingly, it's still the door module.
What were you expecting in terms of update?

If it turned out to be a new module in ident's case above then that's fine - I'll post a grand through the letterbox of the main dealer and let them get on with it. If however he found the "low cost cure" he mentioned then I wouldn't mind knowing what it was - its what these forums are about, no?

Rumour has it you may be pleasantly surprised to find that the door modules can now be changed individually rather than as a pair and will cost less than £650.
I'm sure if Ident had managed to resolve the door module he'd have been back to update.
Talk to a dealer or an independent.

It's certainly a "known issue"

How do you know this?
Is there an alternative parts list floating around? Or did you have this specific issue?

Oh the joys of classic car ownership cry

My main dealer charged £450 a side. I now run a Porsche!
