To be fair, when an event is organised five months in advance there is always the likelihood of people dropping out nearer the time. That said, Bob has paid a deposit based upon the thirty-five commitments that were made.

I for one do not wish to see Bob out of pocket nor do I want people to pay the full amount for a day they cannot attend.

As a suggestion how would everyone on the list of thirty-five feel if we all paid £100 into the pot. Those that cannot attend could perhaps view this as a cancellation fee and those that can attend as a little extra, but for all of us to see it as a way to help Bob who has done a lot to organise a day that we can all enjoy and which shouldn't cost him over £3K.
Nicely done Simon. I was going to suggest exactly the same amount and method at Fridays drivers briefing - I think it's a solution that everyone should go along with - ultimately ALL that I want to see is a fair solution and Bob NOT to be out of pocket. That said the non attendees who have already PAID surely would be excused from the extra 100 quid

Hmm, I'm unable to attend and payed the £350, this seemed reasonable given that I pulled out after the deposit and been paid and contract had been signed, personally I think anyone else who pulled out late should be doing the same!

I think we should leave it to Bob to work out the monies collected from those attending and the deficit. Whatever the deficit we share between the 35. By way of example, Marcel, Jbaps and anyone else that paid their £350 should be credited with his £350 and then the actual amount payable calculated.

Just trying to be fair to everyone going, not going and more importantly to Bob.

I think they should all pay....by putting your name on a list for a paid event , then pulling out after a deposit etc has been paid you should still be liable....why should I pay for someone who for whatever reason decides not to bother .....those who have laid the full amount but are not attending..I take my hat of to you....the rest should be ashamed ....and not trusted ...and I include those who have sold their cars for whatever reason.....after the deposit was paid....

If the sold comment was directed at me then you should check and see that I have paid my money!

I don't think it was meant for you Seemon. I appreciate the concern here, its a difficult one innit. I would like to think between us we can sort a fair way to bridge the gap. It won't happen again cos we learn from our mistakes don't we, so next time it'll have to be payment up front. tongue out

I lost my job so I find your "ashamed and not to be trusted" comment pretty insulting. I have asked Bob to let me know what I owe him and will still pay up as ditching someone in the sh't isn't exactly my style.

I'm sorry to hear your news about your job. I know that Adam cannot attend due to an operation so there are many valid reasons for people pulling out. That's why I made my suggestion.

Thanks Simon. I've always liked Honda drivers.

I'd like to think there are valid reasons for any drop-out, as i don't think anyone on here is a dishonest / "not to be trusted" person and prefer to default to seeing the best in people.

At the same time, nobody wants to see Bob out of pocket as (a) he's a top bloke with a lovely car (b) he's one of the few people (Tony included) who pulls his finger out and organises things, and shouldn't be penalised for it.

The reasons given for the "shame" list are that we didn't take our names prior to the a deposit being paid, which in my case was the 5th August (the day i got my op date confirmed) and 6 weeks prior to the event. If the cost to get on the list back in March was a £100 deposit, I would have gladly paid it and made my decision to drop out in the knowledge that this would be lost. The reality is, if this costs me £350 to not go, it would be cheaper (if not medically advisable) for me to cancel the hospital appointment!

This is no slight on Bob who, at the end of the day is not a professional event organiser and is doing this out of the goodness of his heart, but the key learning needs to be to make the cost of entry and exit more explicit to avoid these kinds of situations.

As referenced by Bob above, I have been in PM dialogue for a week with him on what is expected, and I don't need to be "named and shamed" and called dishonest to do the right thing.

I think Simon's suggestion is fair, but ultimately Bob needs to do the maths and everyone needs to be OK with the final course of action.

I hope you all have a great day. I'm gutted to miss it.

Adam

Like I've said I will pay my share so Bob isn't out of pocket. I think the total cost, less the £350 per car that attends should be split between all those on the list. This should mean some sort of refund for those that paid the £350 despite not being able to attend.

If you have specific people you want to call out go ahead, but a sweeping insulting statement is not necessary. Once Bob has stated the final figure, then everyone has had a chance to pay, then fine, start the witch hunt.

Bob, as already stated, I'll pay my share.

Just got back from 9 days in the Alps and catching up on things. I very much regret that we will not be able to come as I have some business related stuff I have to attend to. I'm really sorry Bob - this must be a nightmare for you.

I will however transfer the £350 today. . Can I suggest that if there is a shortfall likely that you cancel the instructors and save the £750 ?

The MotorSportVision bill for our Track I have just ****PAID**** smile. I will pay the Instructors individually on the day.

I have advised the Circuit Manager as follows:

******************************************************
Our Instructors for Snetterton on the 19th Sept are:
Steve Lewis (S grade)
Michael Broadhurst (A grade)
Karl Goshawk (A grade)

"We would like to commence signing in at 08:30 am for briefing at 09:30. If bacon/sausage butties could be made available please, that would be most welcome. Lunch at 13:00 is good, thank you.
May I remind you that you kindly agreed to make available FOC some spare crash helmets."

********************************************************

Oh yes, by the way, there will be Aston Martin specialist Pit Lane support available throughout the day. So anyone concerned about brake disc or other related issues you will be well taken care of.

Hope the above meets with your approval. By all means let me know if you have any concerns please.

PS: DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR DRIVERS LICENCE!!
