Spotted this on Ebay and can't help but like it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aston-Martin-DBR1-styled...

However, one has to ask the question as to what fans of the marque (Aston Martin) think, when for the same money, one could buy a used, I6 DB7.

If I wanted a DBR, I would go for one of these:

That MX5 based car is just that. An MX5. It's not an Aston, and nowhere even close.

If you like that style of car, the Westfield XI is a lot more tried and tested, if still an old design:

I believe they are available as a kit and much as I would love to spend 100k plus one of the AS replicas, my numbers have not come up on the lottery yet.

It's low end Caterham money for something much more distinctive. It also has 185bhp/tonne power to weight ratio in it's lowliest spec which in not too shabby.

I haven't got the time to build so there doesn't seem to be any real alternative out there if I want my fun to be DBR1 shaped within a sensible budget.

Always remember Mr./Ms. bechsteindebauch, that when you attend any Aston Martin gatherings in your DBR1, it is always preferred that you wear red trousers.

Even better, if you have them, red shoes as well.

I think this fashion idea began as a little piece of irony, about those Italian sports cars.
Remember, Aston Martin beat them at Le Mans.

Sorry.
No kits available from ASM. However the 100k mentioned is actually near twice what we can actually provide a completed car for.
The price of the MEV kit mentioned here would not actually buy the components for an ASM build, so that might give you some idea of the difference.
We currently have both a demo car and a new build in stock should you wish to view.
We are also shortly to have our annual Spring Open Day on April 27th. The details of which are elsewhere on this forum and will be featured as PH East Anglia meet.

What a smashing little car for the money, I bet that is a bundle of fun. I like it, but for 18k, you're going to get 18ks worth i.e. not much.

Great idea and I wonder how well they could be finished off... Sometimes it's just the details that need to sorted.

Can you get a straight 6 in an MX5 chassis? I know the yanks slot V8s in there smile

For what it's worth I bought and built one of there Focus based kits (a Sonic hence my user name) to use as a track toy. Chassis and bodywork are very good quality and the rest is up to the builder. Was at Castle Combe on Monday with it. They also do other MX5 based kits and I'm pretty sure some of their North American customers have fitted different engines.
