Last year when I was driving a Lamborghini Gallardo I owned at that time in slow moving traffic here in Plymouth, three scumsuckers in a shedster Focus pulled up alongside me in the outside lane.

The moron in the front passenger seat wound down his window and shouted out " c**t," to which I replied " Yes but at least I'm a rich one."

For some reason that seemed to confuse his brain cell.
The other response is 'you wouldn't know one if you saw one, which you obviously haven't'

Really unusual. Horts. I've only had nice things said.

Driving through local town this afternoon on way back from lunch at the boat club, two characters in shell suits and facial metalwork saw us coming, jumped in the road and one on each side jumped up and down whooping and giving the thumbs up!! Gave them a headlight flash and floored it. smile Theirs was a bit of an extreme reaction, but quite typical . Brilliant!!

It is a shame when people are like this, but don't let it get you down.

I've had a couple of 911s which, lets face it, get snubbed by even some of the PH community on occasion - but had nothing but compliments about it.

Got very bored of people at shows telling me all the non-original bits they could spot on it though, that got old quick.

I do find it slightly amusing when people think I must be doing well to run a big BMW V8 (6 series), when my Nan has just spent more than twice as much on a new Vauxhall (and it is nothing special). I've been in bits of London where turning up in a V8 Vantage will put you amongst the paupers.

I think I only had one "abuse" incident in my AM, which was just after I had it (youths in something or other throw a fag out of their car at me).

Other people were very complimentary. The same was true when I had a Noble and before the Esprits. But there were a few times that I did have some abuse; but's the positives were many more than the negatives. But I do agree it can be somewhat upsetting.

The cheapest F Type currently on PH Classifieds is £48.5k. The cheapest (sensible) Aston (a DB7) is £22k. The cheapest Gaydon Aston (a V8V) is £29.5k.

So hardly...
And the fact that the F Type you quote is a 2013 car and the V8V you refer to is a 2006.....

Yeah, and...?

Of course the F Type is a newer car. It was only released last year. I just looked at the cheapest cars currently available. I wasn't looking for comparable ages or specs.

The point was that owning an Aston isn't necessarily as expensive as the poster (and others) presume.

Just been out for a spin in the DB9 V and I was astounded by the sad small mindlessness if some people! I heard three insults today that I have never come across before. Jesus what is this country coming too ? Normally I have nothing but compliments and admiring glances, ( at the car if course )

What do you mean, "Yeah, and...?"

You're not comparing eggs with eggs; A V8V costs much more than an F-type; you have to compare new price with new price - not a 1 year old car with an 8 year old one.

I'm not trying to compare 'eggs with eggs'. As we all know, put a dateless plate on the V8V and, to most people, it looks the same as a brand new 2014 V8V.

I already said:

Slightly confused by this argument

An F-Type Coupe-R is £85K

A V8 Vantage Coupe is er..... £85K!

OK you are looking at the top of one range and the bottom of the other but you could spec the F-Type up to be a lot more (likewsie the Vantage as well I am sure) but always buy the cheapest house in the best neighbourhood it is often said

I very much doubt someone hurling abuse has Glasses guide on them.

I've said it before on here, many people have no comprehension of how much an early Gaydon aston costs They buy a 2 year old M3 for more than a vantage and you can spend more on an AMG merc than a used Rapide, but plenty will not appreciate the relative purchase price, running costs and depreciation. Personally I quite like this form of ignorance.

I have to say, i have only once in my ownership of any of my 3 Astons had 1 negative response, and that was probably due to some local inbreeding resulting in a moron.

I don't own an Aston but have been lucky enough to have use of a 2011 DBs coupe and a Volante every now and then. I have only once had abuse in the Dbs Volante, bloke in a Honda Civic shouted out that I was a C bomb laughlaugh but right after that incident I had a fit blonde girl give me the biggest smile going biggrin. So the pros far out way the bad, usually the Aston gets great comments from all kinds.
The one I still can't understand is the Yeti that wrote "Nob" (yes without a K) on A Porsche turboS I drove to FoS last year,Very strange behaviour from someone who surly must like cars to be at Goodwood?confused
I was called an Idiot whilst sat at traffic lights in a Cl63 by a woman crossing rolleyes& whilst driving a Lamborghini 570 Sl was accused of driving a girls car by some kids in a Subaru laugh
The one that made me laugh the most though, was guy who shouted out that i should of bought the Vantage V12s at me whilst sat in DBs Volante laugh If the car had been mine, i would have to of agreed with him.

Only one negative response Michael !
If only they knew you and realised what a thoroughly odious knob you are, spending your wife's inheritance on boy's toys and Ladyboys. laugh
I doubt you have received any negative responses with your Merc as you haven't had much of a chance to drive it.
Pleased to say that I have never had a negative response even with the roof down, driving through the mean streets of London.
I put it down to wearing my Ray Ban sunglasses and putting on a suitably "hard man" expression. cool

Not sure negative comments in any car are based on the car itself, more the people that look at them and assume you are a rich person and spending money that they maybe cannot afford to spend. I suppose with an Aston you are spending money on what is seen as a British car with more understated looks, whereas with a Porsche or Ferrari or Lamborghini you are spending money on foreign cars that shout more 'look at me' with their brighter colours and less understated looks.

Totally agree with your statement Jon. I only have a DB7 i6 but the reaction from people at my place of work was amazing. Everyone was talking about it, yet there were newer cars in the car park worth probably nearly twice as much as my old DB7 is worth, but they never got talked about. Generally, always had positive comments about my car though, which is more than can be said about my 3 series BM when I first got it years ago!
