Massive fans of the amg n/a engines and thought the e63 n/a sublime.
All the road tests reckoned the amg turbocharged engine was as good, but when I drove the e63 with the 5.5 turbo engine I was disappointed ,a noticeable lack of response compared to the previous n/a engine and a mile behind the responsiveness of the Aston v12.
Maybe it was the combo of turbocharging and auto box which creates that delay when you put your foot down ?
In fact not impressed with any of these new turbocharged engines ,the performance and consumption figures are impressive but to drive give me an n/a engine.
Completely agree with you. The 5.5 TT isn't a patch on the 6.2 NA. Fingers crossed they can improve the responses of the engine in the article for AM's sake.

The original db9 came out with 450bhp - the current V8VS has 430bhp so the way I'd look at it is..
Imagine an Aston with a V12 and 700bhp
The current SLS uses a V8 and pumps out 622 HP, add an electric motor and it goes up to 708 HP. The point I'm making is that you don't need 12 cylinders and more and that V8's are the way forward...Imagine an Aston with a V12 and 700bhp
Just a little bump, have people watched the video from the piston heads AMG GT review? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itn8mv5gFRk
To me the engine sounds rather like a elastic band being twanged in a cardboard box, with ridiculously contrived pops on down changes. Not what I'd be looking for in the sound department...

Here's the solution. Maintain your current AM and hold on to it.... then realise the value appreciation and coolness of the car, when people recognise cars as we know them, are no more! We are driving future classics..... just give it 5 years
+1with the added attraction that the price of oil is coming down and my V12 is more economical that my previous V8 !

Oh! do not worry about that.
The AML / Mercedes-Benz technology agreement is for Engines, Transmissions and Electronic Systems.
There is going to be an active channel on the electronic audio system, which plays the existing Aston Martin V8, or V12 exhaust sound, linked to engine speed and gear selection. You won't be able to tell the difference.

I saw that on the HUGE options list for a certain German marque recently - only an extra £750. Ouch! ;-)Im sure Ive seen a video somewhere of the AMG engineer responsible for tuning the exhaust note describing how they make each product sound discernibly different so you can differentiate between cars. I wouldnt worry about what the exhaust note sounds like on any of the AMG cars as it seems to rely mainly on the exhaust configuration which Id hope Aston has control over.

Yes seriously, I am sure that is what we all hope will happen.
The wonderful sound of an Aston Martin, is of course an important part of the owner enjoyment.
I'm not sure the AMG sounds much different to this, albeit the red line is a bit lower:

I disagree, the AMG sounds completely artificial by comparison, and then of course there's this…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxXHA4MtCgc
