I find this quote more interesting:

This and the fact that the F-type is now being offered with a manual gearbox makes me think that news of the manual's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

And some people wonder why I'm not optimistic (hopeful, but not optimistic) about what lies ahead. Yes, I've said it a few times before, so what's one more: An "Aston" that is a modified M-B/AMG underneath (or has an off-the-shelf M-B/AMG engine) is a car I'd have zero interest in.

Chris Harris reviewing the AMG GT - whether we like it or not I suspect a lot of the mechanicals (and he covers the design at the beginning) could well be the next vantage. And I personally wouldn't feel short changed.

But surely if a Vantage is just a GT in drag, surely it's no longer an Aston.... at least in my eyes.

That article is pure guesswork. The clue is "leading us to believe...it's likely..." etc etc. About as reliable as an Autocar article...

I guess it doesn't really matter as this isn't a production car, just a concept for a film. The proof will be when the new cars get released. It is interesting though how close the GT's architecture is the VH platform and if future Aston's are going to use AMG engines and transmissions, why would you go to the expenses of building a chassis from scratch when one exists already for the same configuration?

I think Aston Martin were the first to use this configuration! Well done AMG/Merc for copying cutting edge engineering.

Put the James Bond revealed body on the AMG gt running gear, tweak a few things... I know purists would hate it but It would go like stink and look great. The obsession with uniqueness is a very expensive luxury.
