Not sure if serious... wink but as someone who flies gliders and is hence often very low over airfields looking and judging my height I'd say they're about 300' when they come across the trees. This on the basis that those tall tress are around 150'
Rich. Any of us that fly are constantly judging our height and even have the help of an altimeter to confirm what we might think. I am sure you will agree that judging height from the air down is different from the ground up. These are hugely experienced pilots who will have briefed their legal and display minima and I am certain will not have busted their limits. I don't think it is helpful to speculate so I would recommend we respect their professionalism and assume they were not below the Rule 5 minimum.

Not going to worry what height they were at it was just great to get to see them put through their paces, what a sight and even more so what a sound.

Simon, You said you had got some good pictures of the Spitfires - and boy were you right. They are fantastic.

Nice to meet you at the hotel by the way.

I felt exactly the same. Glad I was wearing sunglasses so it wasn't quite so obvious.

If you like Spitfires, British Heritage and music, then you might like this... Makes one feel proud.

To begin with it was only a bit of banter about the display - which was excellent. I assumed the comment about triangulation was just a joke! biggrin It was certainly all light hearted from my perspective. Unfortunately your somewhat serious response suggests that wasn't conveyed by the tone of my initial posts for which I apologise.

However as you mention judging height I am sure you will agree glider pilots are a pretty unique bunch in that when we land in a remote field (with no engine so no prospective of a "go-round") and with altimeter previously set to QFE one becomes good at judging heights hehe Like wise 500' is typically turn in for base leg so I have an idea what a 20 meter aircraft looks like from the ground because (as I'm often told) I've spent far too many hours gazing aimlessly at the sky! laugh Anyway let's forget I ever mentioned it...

I wasn't trying to start a fight, I just don't think idle speculation is helpful when I know there are CAA lurkers. Anyway, why would you be outside the ATZ with QFE set and not QNH argue That's meant to be a bit of fun in case I get a bite!

To receive the link of Steve's work just shoot me a mail.

Thank you.

I don't own an Aston Martin or any car for that matter, but my wife and I think Astons are the most beautiful cars in the world.

I've dropped my photos in to Photobucket here: http://s1049.photobucket.com/user/edmay1111/slides...
Nice one! Thank you for sharing, and I can see what I missed on the day - I didn't even realise there were cars in the stable courtyard.

BTW, I'm standing just to the left of the open tailgate in your first photo. After that, we hardly stood next to our own car all day... too many others to look at.
Hello alcohol7, I've just read through you're posts, you're new to AM ownership. I wish I'd had a chat with you on the day, I've just finished paying for the children's schooling and been given permission by 'she who must be obeyed' to treat myself to a toy. So how are you enjoying your vantage? Has it lived up to your expectations? What year is it?

Indeed some excellent pictures available there and I would recommend everyone takes a look. I will certainly be buying a few images.

Nothing to bite on - glider pilots never bother with QNH. wink If we land in a field we do it visually, oh hang on, we're back to judging height biglaugh

I hope your children will feel suitably guilty when they realise what they've been depriving you of for the last decade weeping

We certainly weren't the only newbies at Burghley - perhaps we should have all had "L" plates on?

Two months in and we are loving our Vantage... V8V 4.3L 07MY in Onyx Black, with part Sandstorm interior. Primarily bought as a Sunday car, but we've driven it more than that (any excuse will do), and it's just right for us.

In our case, it was 'she who must be obeyed' who has lusted after an AM for some years... (and I wasn't complaining) so the good lady finally pulled her finger out and got looking properly earlier this year. Worked out what options we definitely wanted, didn't jump at the first one we saw (thankfully) and in the end got a car with less miles and more goodies (07MY+) than we originally planned for, so happy all round.

Go get yourself Grant's book... (see sticky thread on top of Aston forum) - it's invaluable when it comes to working out what options were fitted in various model years, so you know what to look for.

Is it specifically the V8V you are considering? I think you are maybe not too far away so happy to meet for a drink one evening and talk about all the nuts'n'bolts of it, point out some things to look out for, and let you peruse close-up... if it will help you with your decision, of course! PM me your approx location and we'll see if that works.
