1) Now my car has just had its eighth service, what's the best way to extend the length of the service book?

2) Checking the oil on a V8V: - after you do the 20 sec warm up and 20 sec rest, you then unscrew the dipstick to wipe it clean. When you actually take the oil measure, do you reinsert the stick and lift up again without screwing it in? Or do you have to screw it all the way in then unscrew again to take the measure?

Many thanks,

Yep 20-30 secs at 1800-2000 revs, turn off the engine, obviously. Wait a further 30 secs and unscrew the dipstick. Wipe the dipstick clean and screw in the dipstick. Unscrew the dipstick again and then take the reading from the stick. If its low, top up and repeat.

If you take it the first time you unscrew the dipstick you will get a false reading as the oil has come up the pipe and marks the stick anywhere it reaches.

im also in the same position....my service book is full, and from memory, Aston want £38 for a few new pages which i find insulting. They want me to pay a premium for the service at a main dealers and pay £38 for a few pieces of 90gram glossy paper for the privilege

Thetees has very kindly provided what I'm after for my service book. If he hasn't already done so with you, then I'll make sure you get a copy of what I've been supplied.

You can get additional pages to add in the back of the book
You also need to clean the dipstick and screw it fully back in with out touchin the sides (and with asbestos hands wink )

confused AM advise that you check the oil level whilst the engine is cold.

"Oil will expand when hot. For an accurate indication, check the engine oil level when the engine is cold."

They do, I've tended to do it after a fill up as a quick check

I wouldn't
The way ASM works is to test and establish the kiss point and bite point of the clutch each time the car is started
Letting it bite, putting load on the clutch/drive train and holding it on the brakes is not going to end well! wink
I'd also suggest sticking DSC in to track mode (hold DSC button for >5 seconds until message comes up) that will allow you a bit of movement before DSC tries to gather it back in with the rear brakes frown

Spinning the wheels by applying too much power off the line is not the fastest way to accelerate anyway. You need to apply enough power to just start the wheels to brake loose and using the traction control is probably the best way unless you are more deft with your foot than the car is at being oversafe on the traction control.

Most of the time saved on a quarter mile is made in the first 60 feet, so practice makes perfect, but also toasts the clutch. Unless the prize is worth the cost, just floor it using the traction control in track mode and save your clutch.

I didn't think fluids could expand? Aerate and therefore occupy more volume perhaps but not expand...

Expansion coefficient for liquids is often higher than for solids.

Though not for oil, which is why it is used in hydraulics as it doesn't compress.
I suspect the col thing is more to do with aeration and ensuring it has all settled
