Thinking about making grill and alloys black or anthracite , DB9V.
Not sure whether matt or satin finish
Is it difficult to remove the grill ?
Which product would / have you used ?

Had both done as you saw on Sunday. My wheels are Anthracite and the front grille is coated in a Black rubberized product that sprays on like a paint but dries as a hard rubber so the stones just bounce off. Done over 2000 miles since I had it done and not a mark on it.

The Wheel Specialists in Fareham did the wheels. (Which is a national franchise) and South Coast Tints did the grille

I liked your car very much, seeing your car was very worthwhile as I could see the finished product.
I've been thinking about doing it for a while.
I happened across a product called Plasti Dip on the web today and I wondered if it was a job I might do myself and if that product was suitable.
Sounds like they may have used a similar product for your grill,is it a Matt finish ?
Also is that a satin finish on the wheels or gloss ?

And this is why you guys should visit the 6-speed forum that many of you mock so much. These sort of tasks have been discussed at length numerous times and many people post how-to's with plenty of pictures, etc.

Look up "dip my car" on YouTube for dozens of videos on people using PlastiDip on parts of, or even entire cars.

It is good stuff if you apply it correctly. Be prepared to waste a tin practising or you can bks it up real easy. On the plus side, it comes off but it only comes off easy if you put it on right.

I can echo Karl here, lots of help from the 6speed gang. I just did my grille in black plastidip spray on like paint but you can peel it off if you don't like it. I'm quite happy with the results. I'm going to get it powdercoated satin black and also do the exhaust tips as well. I am debating buying the 6 vane carbon edition grille as it's relatively inexpensive.

Also we have a great FAQ with lots of contributions on DIY stuff.

As to taking the grille off, maybe half hour work. Take off the radiator cover so you can get to the two nuts in back of the grille, Look in the grille you'll see six torx bolts. FYI, I took the opportunity to replace the torx bolts with SS allen head bolts, tho you can't see em they look much better.

Certainly...

You can either remove the slats ( they just pull out), see...

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=118...

Or you can also remove the whole frame/carrier on which they are mounted. To do this, open the bonnet and it's fairly obvious the six (if I remember correctly) bolts you need to remove.

far easier to remove the whole assembly. Also as someone noted be sure to take a pic as some of the slats are very close in length and easy to mix up. This is a pic Karl took when doing the wrap on his car and was my ref. pic for reassembly (note the top one is the 6 slat grille)
