Hi all..
Unfortunately I have decided to sell my V8V as I would like to put the funds elsewhere. I only have a week left to decide on whether to extend the warranty for the next owner?
What is your view on whether I should renew (approx £1450) or just sell the vehicle without? Do you think the value / ease of sale will be impacted greatly either way?
I also have the paint and wheel Smart Cover that I have never used, although that will run out in a week too. I think that's about £800 ish to renew, I'm not considering renewing that one though.

Thanks

I wouldnt bother, you won't get the £1,450 back. It may help it sell quicker but that's about it.

If I was buying and had a choice of 2 identical cars I would buy the one with warranty.

After market warranty (warrantywise) quoted £1632 for my DB9 but I will renew it with AM for £2,040...just to keep it original...might be worth putting the after market warranty as it would help it to sell quicker I would guess

But would you pay £1500 more for it?

I wouldn't.

As abovee it will help it sell but I doubt you would get your money back on it.

might help the sale if the buyer is looking at 2 similar cars ...otherwise you wont get your money back, so wouldnt bother

I would have thought that someone buying privately would be looking to save at least 10/15% off dealer price.
Therefore I would not buy the ext. warranty.
If I was that bothered I would buy from a main dealer and get the warranty and hope that I would also get support with any problems. ( I know dealer support can vary ).

Bit of a catch 22 one that.
When I was selling the Sag I had very little interest in it until I got a warranty put on it with TVR Power.
While you could argue that I didn't get my money back you could also argue that many people won't look at a car with potentially high repair costs without having the safety net of a warranty, hence why many pay the large premium for a dealer car.
Would suggest that for a particular car the sales would be private £40K, private with warranty £41 and dealer £45.

At the end of the day someone buying privately is not going to be massively risk adverse but if you can give them a reason to be interested in your car rather than the other ones out there it may well have been a worthwhile expense.

Can't you offer it as an option ? Sounds like you're close to the deadline.

That's exactly what I did. I had an asking price that included the AM Premium factory warranty, but for any interested buyers I gave them the option to get it at a lower price without the warranty. What was interesting was that I think the fact that it could come with a warranty was a big draw, but none of the potential actual buyers wanted the warranty when it came time to pay for it. In the end I sold my Vantage without the warranty.

If I want a car with 12 months warranty and a service, I will pay the dealer premium

otherwise as a private buyer im always looking to save a few grand and find a motivated seller

I would check the trade price of your car, get a trade-in price from a dealer, then take a guess at what extra you *might* get from a private sale, then decide if its worth the hassle for the latter....thats my logic when I sell cars anyway
