Hi guys

Was out driving my DB9 today and noticed a tiny stone chip has caused a 3-4mm horizontal crack bang in the in the middle of the windshield just above the waterfall. I'm with Admiral so they cover it for £25 but has to be done by Autoglass.

I've read a few fellow members have used them in the past without any issues for both repairs or entire screen replacement. Just wondering if the general consensus of entrusting Autoglass for crack/chip repair on your Aston still stands?

i used them without issue...had to have a new screen in my Vantage, they had to wait a few days to get it in from the factory, otherwise no bother at all

Chips under a certain size yes
Cracks cannot be repaired

OP the screen will be a genuine AM screen as there are no "pattern" copies available

I was pleasantly surprised with Autoglass recently (albeit not on the Aston) and would use them again. On a previous car when I did not want to use them my insurance made it quite difficult

I had a terrible job by Autoglass :-(

Broke the scuttle panel and didn't even clean off the old sealing tape, never mind re-seal it down !!!!

They obviously don't know on the DB7's at least the scuttle panel is VERY important to be sealed.

By the time I found out they had broken it and not sealed it, several weeks had gone by, so didn't even bother to attempt compensation.

The DB9's are totally different in that area so perhaps no problems with a std windscreen replacement.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I just had it done by autoglass about an hour ago - took them about 30 minutes to fix it. The small crack/chip that was clearly visible from a distance is now pretty much unnoticeable. You could clearly see a small crack when the sun was shining right onto it from outside and inside the car. Now it looks more like a small dirty spot or tiny chip. You can still see it if you know where it is and go up-close but its much less noticeable than before, so will keep an eye on it over the next few days.

They did however mention that you are allowed (if you have good reason) to get it replaced as long as you pay the excess which is £75 with Admiral. Considering this won't affect your NCB, they would order the parts and getting this fitted with the dealer is probably around £1.2 ... I think Autoglass wasn't actually that bad an option.

Not directly, but it will count as a claim on your history and may prevent the accrual of further no claims discount for a while.

Never happened to me and I've had a new windscreen for one reason or another pretty much every other year. They don't seem to care about cracks or replacements.

Happened to me when I did NOT use Autoglass. Really annoyed me.

Create a moody email address and do the Pepsi challenge on a comparison site. Many insurers will ask if you've made a glass claim within a given period. Get a quote with, and then without.

Given how expensive (and technically complex) some windscreens are nowadays, how long before a claim is rejected on the grounds of non disclosure?

from previous experience I would do everything in my power to avoid using autoglass, they are absolutely the worst windscreen repair/supplier I have ever used in the last 24 years.. and I have used a few.

As it happens the opposite has happened - I forgot to include when getting a price, went back and added the windscreen claim and nothing changed. Everyone's experience is different I guess but I've never been told or had evidence of it either effecting my no claims bonus or premium.

I've used autoglass on my x5 when I had one and they could not get the rain sensing wiper to work again and it had to go to a dealer. Like most of these things, the quality of the job is as much down to the man doing it as anything.

Any examples, or is it too painful still?

hehe
