We are planning a few days in the Loire Valley later next week, I have got the Hi Vis jackets, breathalyser kits etc.
The question I have is do I need to worry about the headlights, we do not plan to drive at night, but will the French Bobbies take a dim view (excuse the poor pun rolleyes)

You don't need the breathalysers any more. I wouldn't worry about the headlights.

It is possible to flick a lever over to move then to EU dip
I've never bothered in either of mine
Got flashed a couple of time after blinding a few locals
Never been challenged about the lack of diverts even by the Carabinieri and their machine guns!

Coincidentally, we're off to the Loire Valley also, tomorrow. Roadster's first trip abroad.

I just have the beam deflectors in tha car and would argue that I do not intend driving at night but if I did I would put the beam deflectors on. As for the breathalyser kit. Just keep in the car as it gives less potential for problems. According to my info they can't fine you but you have them in the car - figure that

You can also change the sat nav as well (well you can on the Garmin versions - not sure about the Volvo one)

Currently down in the South of France near Beziers, albeit with the more practical Volvo! I've brought the hi-vis jackets (I was told one for each passenger), first aid kit, warning triangle and breathalyser (albeit they can't enforce this with a fine) but haven't bothered with the beam converters. It's a nightmare to change the Aston's headlights over (you have to take off the front wheels, remove the arch liners and try and locate the lever!), and I drove through the night with no issues.

I can advocate the toll tag though. Bloody marvellous thing that saved us so much time at the tolls. I think it was a €20 deposit which is the.n linked to our bank account and deducts the tolls as necessary. We were rocking up to the tolls, driving past major queues and just went straight through. Paid for itself before Paris in my book!

No you don't
Last time I did mine I just put the the wheels on full lock to get be hind the headlight, undid the liner cover panel behind the headlight, then removed the rear headlight cover (brass screw)
Push lever over to over side and reverse above!

That said I don't bother any more wink

Even if you don't drive at night there might be rain or tunnels. I reckon it's just courteous to make this minor adjustment.

I got nicked in France about 4 weeks ago, doing 137kph in a 110kph zone. On the spot EUR 90 fine, the coppers were incredibly polite and didn't even tell me to slow down in future. Just "you were speeding, this is the fine".

Whilst giving my details, the second copper took a good look around my car (we were in my missus' CR-V). I can't say for sure he was checking the deflectors (which were applied about 3 hours earlier) but I wasn't asked to show the high-vis vests or the breath test kits.

I didn't bother converting the headlights either. Had no problems at all.

Don't worry about beam deflectors or those stupid alco testers. Not necessary. Also remember that there is no connection between the French authorities re the STATIC cameras but if you are zapped by a radar gun then you will get seriously fined depending on your speed. A friend in a Ferrari was caught at about 160mph and nearly lost his car but managed to get it back from the rouzzers after paying £1500 fine! Ouch!!
