It looks like I may be buying a lot bigger house and I'll need to get the equity out of the V12V to make the maths work. Shame, its a hell of a car but with a bit of luck I can return to buy a rag top version in a few years time.

So the question I have for you all is do I sell it as is or do I spend a few grand fixing a few cosmetic issues first.

I have a couple of small nicks on two wheels, I have a damaged splitter and I followed someone to close in the rain in Wales on a gravelly road and the front end needs a respray. All in all probably £3k to £5k of work.

So will I get the cost back if I do the work and given the car will be pristine do you think it will get sold that much quicker?

I am not buying another car so I am going to try and sell privately rather than go to a main dealer.

Car will be 3 years old Jan 1st with 13k on it, Carbon Black edition with lightweight seats. I am thinking circa £90k maybe even more. Any thoughts?

If you are looking at getting in excess of £90k then you would definitely have to get the work done to make the car absolutely spot on.

There's currently 4 similar cars with dealers at that sort of price, all with mileages about 5k, good luck.

My immaculate (really immaculate) 5,000 miles unmarked v12v went to a dealer for £72,500. Part ex offers were much less. The prices are supposed to creep up but of course we don't all have the luxury of waiting... Private sale might get you £85k mint say? Best of luck!

Hi Craig,

I recently did the same exercise.

Sold my storm black 2010 7.5k miles v12v. Had lightweight seats too.

Mine was mint. I mean mint. Detailed and everything.

Dealers would bid 70-72. Maybe 75 at a push.

I considered selling privately (I bought it unadvertised from someone on this forum last year). I thought it would be a nightmare.

I put it on SOR with Grange Brentwood in Essex and they sold in in 24 hours for £85k and returned £80k. A joy to deal with them.

I hesitated to use Nicholas Mee too as they were very friendly and helpful.

The market is strong for those cars and there are few around.

I think if you put it in the market with people like this, they may do the work at cost and maximise your return.

Best of luck.

A dealer might get 90k for it, you wont get that selling private even if you do all the work. imo. Some on here know this.

A dealer would struggle to get £90K for it so you would struggle more I think as a private sale, especially if you have not done the remedial work, plus you have little warranty left. Even on SOR with a dealer, from a cost perspective they would have the cost to fix what needs fixing, a 140-point inspection, a warranty, showroom overheads and the VAT on the difference between the sale price, and what you would get when they pay you for the car. Add on the profit margin they would want to make and I think if they sold at £90K you'd be very lucky to get £80K back from the dealer.

I found after trying to sell mine that even if you offered it at a giveaway price (I am talking £90K for a 2013 V12V with under 5K miles) people prefer to pay a premium and buy from a dealer.

Strange, I would have no problem buying privately and putting my own warranty on it but each to their own. I think I'll need to do the work and then given the lack of supply of these cars at the moment and the strength of the prices of the cars similar to mine, I'll try selling privately for a while. Its booked for a service in Dec (to identify any warranty work before 3 years is up in Jan) so if not sold I can get the 140 point-inspection done then.

Seriously Craig, read my post again. Going through the guys at brentwood SOR was the best decision I made in a long time.

I see that HWM still have Sparkly on the forecourt, but at £99,950 they are asking top money. It is of course a top car and immaculate, but still only a £20K ish gap to getting into a V12VS.

Woolie from what i hear your car too is superb , but as you say it is at top price, these seem to sell better below £90k .
How you did not sell that as a private sale i just dont know as it was priced right imo!

Unfortunately Grange Brentwood is some way off from me here in the Midlands. I'll give SOR some thought and maybe feel a few local dealers out.

Still thinking that in the space my car is in (2012, relatively low mileage compared to some, Carbon Black edition, lightweight seats) there is nothing of quite same spec and what comes close is circa £90k and more. All advice gratefully received.

All due respect, more people see the vanilla v12v as more desireable than v12vs now that the former is discountinued.

I have no more interest since I no longer own a v12v. But I can see why someone wanting a 'fun' car would go for the last manual version.

Put it up on the PH classified section or Autotrader (which will include a listing in Top Marques) and see how you get on. It isn't expensive and at least you'll get a feel for the market.

I had over 2,700 views of my advert and no interest at all. Yours being a CB with the lightweights may well sell quickly as it is a desirable spec.

My thinking exactly. Stratstone Hagley have very similar but 1 year older, £5k less miles but not lightweight seats for £91,733 so I think £90k is a good place to start talking as I agree its probably the most desirable spec for the V12V.

It is probably a desirable spec, but theirs will not have damaged wheels / paint & splitter, will have 140 point check (for what it's worth), more than likely a service (so no cost to the new owner for 1 year) and definitely 1 year warranty from date of purchase. More importantly the punter has a comeback on a dealer for say knackered brake discs and NONE on a private sale.

I agree they are making strong money (stronger than last year when I sold mine), but retail money for a car that is not from a dealer and is not in perfect condition, I am not so sure. Get the items sorted and you stand a good chance.

If you made £85K in the condition you describe, I think you will have had a massive result. If I had to spend money on it and it were a private purchase it would need to owe me £85K or less finished, again only my opinion. I think Erics has called it right, I did the same.

I am sorry if it seems like I am talking your car down, I am trying to offer an opinion from someone that owned and sold one recently & I hope you make as close to 90K as you can obviously. It is a fantastic car and I miss mine very much yes I think that next year they will probably still make the same money and people will have had another year of pleasure for not a lot smile KEEP IT, KEEP IT, KEEP IT yes

Good luck with the sale & to make maximum money, get the faults sorted as people will just use it as a way to kick you in the nadgers.

I am convinced I need to get the cosmetics resolved and I think it will doubtless sell somewhere in the £80k to £90K range depending on the enthusiasm of the buyer to get his hands on such a car. If you want a very late manual V12V, CB, with lightweight seats (which are the mutts), its the only one out there.

I'm keeping mine for all of the reasosn mentioned above and the fact that I love it.

I have a couple of nicks on a wheel, a damaged splitter (hit a half brick on the road in Bradford - that taught me a lesson!) and a chipped grille, but the car is otherwise in good condition. I have done 16000 miles in three years. If I sell it, I don't think it will be for at least another two years.
