That new Merc AMG-GT looks like a mighty fine car and at around 100k will hurt AM sales ......I hope Andy Palmer fast tracks some interesting metal because AM are getting left behind

Put an Aston sticker on the Merc GT and everybody will be happy. A bit like the Cygnet.

just about everybody slagged off the new Vanquish when the first pictures came out......beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the base model AMG-GT is very quick !......at 90-95k its serious competition for AMV8

I personally like this new Merc and we all know the in car entertainment bits will be years ahead of our current steeds. I still don't like all this turbo stuff so my ickle V12 will have to suffice for now (and then a Vanquish 2.2 when I win the lotto)

Agreed. I wouldn't buy the new Mercedes, but it will appeal to some people. Competitors for the V8 include cars like the R8, so some Aston buyers are quite happy buying cars that some might think boring/ugly aesthetically. The Vantage's 0-60 time is nothing special among its peers and while it's fine to say we aren't boy racers, the numbers do carry some weight.

The new AMG GT's most appealing feature is also its Achilles heel... it is still a Mercedes Benz.

That is good news for buyers that have always bought Mercedes Benz and also good news for those buyers that feel an Aston Martin could be a little flash, but can get away with a luxury Mercedes.

It does look like a great car and if it can be supplied and maintained by the same outfit that service your wifes car and the other cars in your home then it's ideal.

I don't see many Aston customers lost to MB in this case, as we have seen on this forum along a lot of buyers buy an Aston because it is an Aston and for the way it looks.

If we all bought cars on dynamic ability and pound performance kudos, then we'd all be over on the Porsche forum arguing about contrasting stitching... biggrin

Maybe I just don't get it but is that the best MB/AMG can do with all their resources in this class of car? I don't see it as blowing V8VS clean out of the water either on real-world speed or fuel consumption and the V8V is 10-years long in the tooth. Why would you? Ugly a ste too.

It's bloody ugly looking.

Give me the lines and style of the current Aston Martin models anytime.

Cheers

I really like the new AMG GT. I really hope they are planning a roadster version. Could be a serious consideration for next car in a year or two.

I should also add, I'm very curious to hear how it sounds with the addition of turbos. I hope it hasn't lost the AMG soundtrack.

Looks like an ugly MX5 from the front and an ugly 997 from the back. With an ugly bit in the middle. Hang on to your gorgeous pre AMG Astons chaps, things may never be the same again.......

well lets hope Aston don't do a Bentley and shove an AM body on the running gear of the AMG-GT and call it a AMV-GT

Record sales and a strong product range is the other side of the coin and let's not forget for some reason some AML enthusiasts view Gaydon cars as not true Aston Martin's

I haven't tried any of the turbo cars. Are they anything like the old supercharged V8? That was one of my favourite engines cloud9
