Folks, is there a relay or solenoid at the n/s rear wheel somewhere within the wheel arch. Every 2-3 minutes there is a clicking noise (could be ABS??). This is then followed by fan kicking in within the engine pay for 5-10 seconds.

Any clues or anyone have an electrical schematic?

Thanks

Aircon solenoid is very noisy, makes a real metallic clunk every few seconds. Try deselecting aircon, which is a bit of an art involving selecting a suitable temperature such that the Ac doesn't automatically come on. Run at idle for a bit to see if the noise reoccurs. HTH

Sorry, should have said this happens with engine off & car either locked or unlocked - is there an aircon solenoid in the rear arch?

Ok, so it's not A/C. The only thing I can think of that would activate with engine off would be the coolant temperature switch, which would tie in with the fan coming on and off. Be surprised if it's anywhere near the rear wheel arch though. Someone who knows what they're talking about will be along soon.......

Thought if it was near a wheel, might have been ABS?

What age is the car and is it ASM1?
Could be gearbox cooling or associated hydraulic circuits?

Depending on how handy you are with spanners the arch lining comes out pretty easily so you could have a look yourself. If its causing no obvious issue then pop it to a dealer / independent whenever is convenient.

I have this on my Roadster and dealer advises nothing wrong but it is annoying. Is there a fix? .

Not that I'm aware of. It's sadly just one of those things.

You could be hearing the DTML pump running to do a leak test when you shut the car off.

What KF said.
I stole this from 6speed, from one of our resident techs:

"To me it sounds like the DMTL pump running a check. The system does actually run at times while completely "off". The vehicle has to go through a number of steps (drive cycle for DMTL pump), when this drive cycle is met, the test is performed, weither it be a small or large leak test. The large leak test is usually done while running(how it detects a open fuel cap), the small leak test is usually done while off. If a leak at say 20thou was present on a purge line(small pin hole from some road debris), the DTML would not detect this leak while running for the vapour mangement valve opens/closes while running and fuel level changes and does not stay steady(flat), due to stop-go and corning..so for a small leak, the small leak drive cycle has to be met and vehicle needs to sit while off(soak for time). When the car was just turned off, the large leak test will still continue if it had started and will stop when it finishes(don't have to worry about the battery, it has a protection for that is low voltage is present so the test does not fail)...if you just shut off the car and the noise continued to be heard for 2mins..this sounds like the large leak test was in operation-and continued till finished. If there was a fault with the test, next ignition cycle the MIL light would be on..no fault, no MIL light"

Not sure if this scenario is right in my case, as the car can sit for a day or more & still behave with clicking noises from nsr wheel, i.e. the car is effectively cold. I understand when the car has sat for a few months in storage there are gremlins in the electrics which reveal themselves!!
