That’s what I’m hoping. It looks like a stone or something may have got in between the pad and the disc. The car has only done 13k miles, and apart from these grooves, the discs still look good to me. I think I’ll get the MD to check each corner though, just in case there is any debris elsewhere. Fingers crossed. Thanks for your reply. Will keep you posted.

It’s still on the original pads, so I think your suggestion makes sense. Maybe worth fitting new pads all round. I’ll keep you all posted with how it pans out. And yes, I really like the liquid silver wheels too. Don’t seem to see too many V12Vs with those fitted, but I think they look pretty classy.

Well my AM vantage V 12 is on 66K miles, tonnes life still in the brakes .
Only real way to check the disc is to remove and weigh them if no obvious wear , just make sure the dobbins are checked regular at service as they are the main problem due to corrosion, they can snap .
Don’t have chemical sprayed on wheels to clean .

Hi there,

Bit of a thread resurrection....

I looked at 2 x Gen 2 Vanquishes at the weekend, on one the discs felt super smooth, almost glass like. The other they were very coarse.

The pictures in this thread are great but any advice as to what the should feel like?

I appreciate you need to dry and weigh them to be sure but if there are any obvious 'walk away' signs then that's a good start.

Disk's should be nice and shiny and smooth, not course and dull.

This is the "ouch" topic... reading the price of CC`s is somewhat off-putting when numbers like that above could account for more than 25% of a second hand car purchase! However I have been previously informed by those much more knowledgeable than me, that CC refurbishment is possible these days for a much smaller fee.

I think £20k is from a few years back and when I looked into it about £12k should get all 4 corners done these days and yes I too have heard that refurbishment ate now possible but I think the place was in Ger.any or Netherlands so not sure about UK yet.
BR tell you to let a car creep on a closed throttle and then gently apply brakes and you should heta a faint whoosh sound. This apparantly means they are a good set of pads and discs.
I do hear this myself in my car but not always so I wouldn't rule in or out a car based on the faint whoosh type noise but it's sort of reassuring to hear it happen by chance every now and again.
Lastly , yes they should feel nice and polished when touched. Any pitting or roughness would have me bargaining hard or even walking.

Please do not go anywhere near a car with CCM discs that feel "very coarse". They are finished and the replacement bill is astronomical and don't let any salesman tell you otherwise.

Discount the OEM replacement cost and have them refurbished. Win win.

To be honest it was the car at Sytner in Tamworth, I said the discs were toast and they would be around £15k to replace so it was a £50k car....(is up for £67,500).

He pretty much sneered at me and presumably thought I was a chancer. I walked but some poor sod will end up buying that and is in for the surprise of there life.

Only thing i will add is that the discs can go between feeling rough and then smooth. On my own when I have been driving around town at low speed and with minimal brake pedal pressure, they start to squeal and when you touch the disc it feels rough. An enthusiastic drive with plenty of firm brake pedal use, will stop the squealing and when touched the disc feels smooth again.

Makes me wonder if it's on sale or return as it's not on the official AM stock listing which I believe sale or return cars are not allowed to be.

Probably will not have the official AM Timeless warranty either, but will not cover anything to do with the brakes (plus lots of other items).

I did wonder why Sytner didn't send it to their official aston dealership for sale, strange (or thetebis a very good reason qjy they didnt)
Anyway I don't think it's too bad a price but it does suggest the brakes need attention. So I think it will go for high 50's maybe 60 at a push.
If the car ticked the right boxes then it's still a viable purchase. Second hand discs and pads are often for sale at a fraction of full cost from crash damged write offs, so if you can be bothered with the faff I can still see some value in that car but at rhe right price.

They quoted £17000 for a full set of discs and pads.

Seriously interested in a Vanquish s2 but my budget will be for a higher miler 7 speed, so I am more likely to hit the brake replacement cost, especially if BR are correct that 60K is the average lifespan.

So my question is - has anyone actually gone the Re-brake route? They are quoting euro 1800 plus VAT per disk which is much more doable.

The fact that they are based in Germany and have a thought-through website gives some confidence, although they don't warrant refurbished discs over 5 years old.

You mean gen 2 6 speed? Discs can last forever, depends on the use
