Was only looking at the Aston forum yesterday and thinking how dull it has now got.
Technical stuff always got answered within the first couple of posts
Bring back the banter, but without the trolling /insults.

Hopefully any issues can be resolved privately off the forum and so the normal technical content interspersed with massive amounts of off-topicism (is that a word?!) can prevail. The trading of insults, if it has to be done, should really be a private matter.

Maybe we could have two new separate "stickies"on the forum.
1) The trading of Insults.
2) Drivel and off topic Banter.

Good to see you are able to be back here Mike, and despite the digs I think in general everyone can learn much from your posts. Sadly, unless you are doing anything amazing for Hondas, I probably won't learn much at all that is of relevance to me at the moment, but I will store it for when I am back in the fold
Just FYI on the subject of Honda, the Honda forum is always on topic, no banter whatsoever and generally has at least three, and sometimes as many as five, posts per day so really easy to keep up to date with all that is happening with the Power of Dreams
Yep a little dryer over there, unless you venture in to the "Muppets" section Just FYI on the subject of Honda, the Honda forum is always on topic, no banter whatsoever and generally has at least three, and sometimes as many as five, posts per day so really easy to keep up to date with all that is happening with the Power of Dreams
Maybe we should do that here

I'd forgotten about the Honda section on here its that dry

Back to technical, can anybody answer this?
http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Brake_discs
if a Lotus chap could post their experience it would validate these remarks.
Brake technology and pretty much any other trick tech on cars these days is a bought in system from the auto maker's supplier - Brembo in this case, so tech direction will be lead by how Brembo want the market to go and not tuther way around

Some automotive disc brakes use MMCs. Early Lotus Elise models used aluminum MMC rotors, but they have less than optimal heat properties and Lotus has since switched back to cast-iron. Modern high-performance sport cars, such as those built by Porsche, use rotors made of carbon fiber within a silicon carbide matrix because of its high specific heat and thermal conductivity. 3M sells a preformed aluminum matrix insert for strengthening cast aluminum disc brake calipers,[1] allowing them to weigh as much as 50% less while increasing stiffness. 3M has also used alumina preforms for AMC pushrods.Yep, as above for MMC. Lovely pedal feel and good initial bite. Wet weather driving could provoke a wide eyed expression when first attempting to slow down on the slip road. They don't like continued track use, especially if the car is carrying more power than original and can overheat with terminal results (for the disc). It didn't help that the manufacturer closed down.
It seems the compromises that cast iron discs have really are the best for a road car from an all round perspective of cost/performance/longevity.

Impasse agree with the dry weather pedal feel. Nothing I have driven since has had that level of feel, also aided by the lack of servo assistance.
Agree with the wet weather bite. You certainly adhered to the 'only a fool breaks the 2 second rule' on a wet motorway.
That tech was 20 years ago, shame it wasn't stuck with and developed.

I had MMC disc’s on my first S1 Elise and compared to the steel disc’s I had on my S1 Exige they were much better. I did quite a few track days and never had any problems. For those that might be interested if you have a look at this, http://youtu.be/a-TiFKr2yb0 from 1:03 there’s a segment about the manufacturing process and from 1:18 there’s a segment about the testing of the disc’s at Stelvio.

Out of interest ....the discs shown with the worn damage.....what was the weight when weighed?....and does anyone know the minimum weight before discs need to be replaced?
I believe minimum weight is etched onto the hub bell Tone but CBA to go out to the garage and look Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
