I was driving over some speed bumps yesterday and was thinking they looked quite high, so I got out to check...! I could barely get my finger between the road and splitter... Go steady over them.

You won't get much change from £2600 (I have had to do it in the past!)

In fairness, a split second after this, the wheels hit the bump and raised the splitter significantly, but still pretty scary.

I don't want to see this! I go over a lot of speed bumps and have been really pleased so far with tha apparent lack of drama so I will continue to picture my car several inches higher than the hump. I was very, very brave early on and established I could go over them at the applicable legal limit but I do still slow down hoping that leaves me with a good margin of error.

Speed bumps - keeping mechanics in business country wide!

Apart from the obvious risk to low cars, there is the increase in damage to suspension. I've had to replace two springs on the Merc and z4 and I'm convinced some of that wear and tear is down to the frequency of speed bumps. No matter how slowly we drive over them I believe it must shock the suspension a fair bit (SWIDT) rolleyes

Try getting a bog standard db9 in and out of Chichester marina, you have to drive over the humps at 45 degrees and still you drag the nose !!!! Blooming silly in my humble opinion.

There is a Sainsbury near me with stupidly high solid granite humps. You can see numerous scrapes AND oil drips leading from them, really scary. They never get my business. I will never shop anywhere I cannot sensibly park. I don't shop much!

Just returned home from France/Spain/Italy/Switzerland and enjoyed 2,500 miles of wonderful motoring but just about every town in France seems to have these high speed humps.

I go really slow over them which the cars following, unless Astons from the group, didn't seem to like and were very impatiently close to the back of the car frown - but just made them wait until we left the village biggrin Will start a thread with some pictures but what a glorious noise ours cars make - with the sun on your back and the roof down there is just no better place to be. The switch BR fitted at Burghley has made such a difference yes

It reminds me just how lucky we are to have such wonderful cars!!!!!

According to the owner's manual there is only 10° of clearance. Considering how tall most speed bumps are, it's no wonder why so many cars have scraped splitters.

I've been within a playing cards width with my splitter as well, I parked over some weeds on a bumpy car park... the weeds were hiding a solid concrete curb smile

Going down is worse than climbing up them. We really whacked the front going down one to the extent that the car 50 m in front heard the scrape. Fortunately no damage seems to have been done other than scrapes on the underside, so I guess they are stronger than you think!

These speed humps literally popping up everywhere right now is really p1$$1ing me off

I have cars i have to physically turn around and find another route as they won't go over...Not easy doing a 3 point turn in an FGT on a narrow road.

Others such as outside Syon park coming away from the Salon Prive in a standard SLS graunched so heavily on the underside I'm sure there is damage as now it clonks

Looking up rules that govern these stupid things say that they should be a maximum of 10cm high....I don't think so

Any advantage in tackling the speed bumps at an angle, if circumstances allow? I am too brain dead to do the maths and I am sure there is someone on here who can confirm this or not

I don't suppose you're in the clear until the wheels hit the bump and lift the splitter, up until that point, the splitter remains the same height.

dkatwa, I physically cannot get into Chi marina in a straight line, I tried once and have lived to regret it. If you attack from 45 degrees you can clamber over but even then there are some not so nice noises !!!

My daily drive is littered with these. The scrape I hear is usually from the two fins pointing down at the back of the splitter, but the underside of the splitter bears the scars.

The bad scar though was caused by a half brick in the middle of the road in Bradford.

I marvel at the guys that lower their cars! Mine is stock and no matter what angle my (still) plastic splitter scrapes going into the road!! I cringe every time!
