Hi guys,

I have a 2009 V8 Vantage and am trying to update the sat nav system. I have read a fair bit about the Volvo option etc.

The first thing I need to know is if I have a straight DVD or HDD set up, can anyone advise how I check this?

Once I know that I need to know which part to go for? Would be great to get TMC and keep the speed camera awareness functionality. Any guidance from experience on this would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you have a 2009MY car with the new fascia/centre console then it should be the HDD system, the unit is usually behind a carpet flap on the left side of the Vantage's boot, or if you have a Roadster you need to slightly raise the lowered roof to find the drive in the middle just above the rear cubby box.
Best of luck there has been lots of great posts about updating the software, so best do a search smile

Thanks, I have a roadster and indeed under the roof hatch is a single disk drive, does that mean it is definitely HDD? Because it changed in 2009, I just want to be 100% before I spend £££ on a disc set!

Also if I update it with the Volvo discs will I still have the speed camera POIs?

Thanks

As Grant says if you have the new fascia (with an ECU) then you will have the HDD Sat Nav. Can't help on your second point.

Yes speed cameras remain, as do AML PoI, TMC and the AM wings loader screen, after a Volvo update.

Great news about the POIs and Cameras! Thanks all!

Now I may be being stupid but I can't work out what you mean by new fascia with ECU, my sat nav looks like this:

Once I know can anyone give me the part number?!

Thanks again

The ECU is the square, plastic/glass 'key' (that you have). Therefore, you have the new facia and a HDD nav system.

I tend to think ECU stands for electronic control unit. However, in this case Aston Martin have named the key (block of glass or the plastic version), Emotion Control Unit. Quite how it can control emotions, I do not know.

Your centre facia is the current type. Compare with the 4.3 Vantage and you will see the difference.

I have just completed a trip to Spa, and my passenger used navigator software on a mobile phone. It even gave a ping warning when any speed limit was exceed by 5%. I am now a convert to the free navigator applications, available for phones and tablets. No need to spend money on extra disks when better systems are free.

When people drop the glass one and it breaks they tend to get very emotional smile

Brilliant.

My emotions are so scared of the situation you describe, that unfortunately my glass ECU is never used.
When told that the replacement cost is approaching £1000, that was it.

On that topic, mine has lost a screw in the back and keeps unclipping - becoming a right pain in the $$*£

Any ideas where I could get a new screw from where I am not paying £££. I thought initially it was a screw for a pair of glasses but its actually pretty long and i haven't seen these kind of screws down B&Q!
