Help please. Dead battery and cant open car

Ok, this is a bit weird. After reading this thread, I locked my '06 DB9 with the remote, then tried to open the driver's door with the ignition key. No joy. Then I went around to the passenger's side, and just as with the OP, that door unlocked with no problem.
Unlike the OP, I don't have any battery problem...I just wanted to check that the key would open the door.
I can't find any reference to the key not opening the driver's door in the manual. Does everyone else's key open the driver's door after it has been locked with the remote?
