I thought the S was for that purpose a more hard edged car.

I would gamble on the car being a simple mule externally for whatever is being tested internally, and that something more special than V12VS in V12VS outer clothes pre new model is unlikely because dynamically it would reduce the improvement the new model has over out going model.

having 'some' experience of this, i would have made this mule look totally identical to current production, then no media attention would have been drawn. Quickest way to effect V12VS sales, make buyers aware of hotter mid cycle face lift on horizon, even worse how to destroy sales make the models successor appear 'looming'.

the change from db7 to DB9 was a tricky one, i know many new buyers of last db7 who were promised amazing trade in deals when db9 came out just to keep db7 sales going. Then 4.3l V8 to 4.7 saw old stock extremely difficult to shift, and then there was dbs to virage to vanquish transition. But more difficult is to come imo. If the world is eagerly awaiting next gen astons with merc engines, which might hit shops say, '16 - how are sales going to be kept alive until then and if that does involve a hot edition, keeping that end of outgoing legislation car from treading toes of incoming model which passes stricter next generation legislation will be tough.

The DVLA website shows the annual 'road tax` for this car is £230 per annum.

Might that be the amount paid, if a low emissions AMG V8 engine is fitted?

I think that may be the amount manufacturers pay for test mules destined for the scrapyard. No doubt someone far more knowledgable will confirm

Must admit my first thought was AMG engine testing

Going by the wheel arches, the track is quite a bit wider, so could be something "newer" under the skin?

could be but the GT (track only) cars have a wider track than the production road car equivalents - CC100 for instance uses the race car wider track

Click on the link and look at the stream of 4 pictures.

A wide track vantage, running extra large wing vents.

If it's a track focused vantage, wouldn't it be running larger front calipers?
If it's a future gt3/4 type racer, wouldn't it be running more aero?
An engine that produces more heat than the current V12, or needs more air in?
I'd also say, by the amount of roll, it looks like it's not very stiff for either track or race purposes, and, it's sitting way up high.

A video, with sound would've been useful.

Keep us guessing AM smile

Could be a mule for the next DB9?
Maybe just testing some engine/suspension components

I wondered that also. But, the wheelbase is 140mm different between db9/vantage current gen.

I don't know how they could test suspension with chassis differences like that.

Endurance testing engine and gearbox?
Calibrating gearbox program?

How is it more track-focused than the V12V?

I don't quite get the comments on V12V/V12VS already being track focussed

It's all relative and V12V is surprisingly good on track but a version with a little less weight, a few less toys, a wider track & a tweaked engine would make a welcome swansong

Certainly more than yet another 'carbon black II ultimate' edition type car

The autocar pics show tape over where the side strakes normally sit so I wouldn't read too much into that

There is room for a little less luxury, non electric seats, a little less sound deadening, stripped out interior door panels, plexi rear window, etc though unfortunately, I doubt they will go quite that far
