V12. Sounds too smooth and melodious for a v8.

By comparison, presumably the white M-B that is following (sticks the tail out), has a bi-turbo V8.
Probably not such an attractive sound to Aston owners.

Right at the beginning, that first down shift before they turn in... sounds a little like a poor manual shift (the momentum pulling the engine revs up as the clutch is let out) than an auto blip.. or is that just wishful thinking its a manual?

Please excuse going off topic, but my point is to do with future models.

You probably share my view, that the sounds made by Aston Martin cars, add so much to our pleasure of ownership. The V8 engined Mercedes-Benz cars have their own distinctive sound, but it has never been my favourite noise.

This subject is referred to in a newspaper today, by a Mr. J. Clarkson;

- 'AMG Mercs are tremendous, but that guttural exhaust noise causes people to think you are a gigantic idiot.'

I expect (and hope) AML will tune their future exhaust systems, but how much scope is there to vary the sound of turbocharged engines?

I raised the same concern whilst you were away Jon and I was directed to the sound of the Pagani Zonda as reassurance. Fair comment in that the Zonda does indeed have an AMG engine but it a normally aspirated V12 rather than a turbo V8 and so I'm not too sure how reassured I am by that association. I suspect my ultimate Aston will have a normally aspirated V12 in it anyway but never say never.

Have we learned nothing from James May?

The Aston in the video sounds V12-powered to me. The notion of an off-the-shelf AMG V8 merely with tweaked electronics & exhaust -- rather than a specific-to-Aston bespoke variant -- under an Aston's bonnet/hood makes me very sad. And uninterested.

In fairness the N24 was never intended as a road car, I know of only one road registered and that took some serious work!
Now GT4's that's a different kettle of fish

I wonder if this ties in with the V12VS with manual gearbox rumour that I heard earlier this year? scratchchin

Mikey they have road registered 4 N24s so far and another 2 are in the process. There are also a couple of GT4s registered as well. They are a bit harsh for the road to be honest, I think they need some revised shocks to be more civilised, or a set of electronically adjustable ones like Bilstein makes.
