Perhaps you should ask for the brakes to be inspected - in a similar fashion to them wanting your Bentley inspected. I am surprised the brakes are squeezing after a 150 mile trip to you. Thought some hard breaking before he got it to you would have sorted the problem. Early cars did have this problem and most had different pads put on. Have yours been changed or is it the original problem others have experienced.

I guess your attitude to the admin fee depends how much you want the car. If you love it and they satisfy you on the brakes then swallow it. Otherwise tell them it is a deal breaker and look at one of the others available. Only you can decide.

Don't let small irritations stop you buying "your" perfect spec car

OP you're spending nigh on £100k, your car should be perfect so my advice would be to walk away, as hard as that sounds. I had a similar experience with my V12V that had a fault the dealer said they would fix after I'd bought it. It didn't reassure me enough so I walked away. Not easy. Fortunately I found the perfect car soon after. Very soon as it turned out. I hope you will too.
A bit more patience would be my recommendation so you buy with your heart and your head. Good luck.

Very easy for us to say tell em to get stuffed.
I'm guessing it's a earlier model as the brakes squealed of them my new one doesn't.
If you've done your research and there's not another like it at the moment then you have no choice if you want it.
However if you can find another there's your bargaining tool.
Headlight condensation is normal.

If they are like that during the buying cycle you have to ask yourself how much worse they will be with any post sales warranty issues.
Brakes - insist they fix it if you want this car.

Had a very good tour at AM Works today factory and showroom.
They came across as very professional if I was to look at another car they would be my first visit.
They have no DBS in at the moment. BTW

That's the one! I've already ordered the book, but I will have probably bought the car before it arrives!

You are bang on about their negotiating stance - in fact I am thinking of offering them extra as they are clearly making so little on this sale wink

In fairness though, they are 3 hours away from me and I just don't have the time to write off a day going to see it, so they are bringing it down to me tomorrow morning.

Here is a pic of it outside of the showroom lights, I think the colour looks even better:

Dear God, whats that old chat up line form the 60's in a Terry Thomas voice
"my god but your lovely".
Stunning looking car with performance to match. Now if only I hadn't had to buy a house for my mother-In-law to live in,cry

Julian, I sense you need to sleep on this one.

The facts are this:

You want the car, but you're irked at an admin fee and troubled by squealing brakes and misty headlights.

In turn, the dealer won't budge on price, and is seeking reason to reduce the Partex price on your Bentley.

For me, I'd stick with it, pay the admin fee, BUT I'd insist on the brakes being absolutely flawless before accepting the car. There has been much discussion on CC brakes, so I'd want absolute piece of mind - which is what the dealer wants with your Bentley. Seems like an entirely reasonable discussion to have.

Misty headlights - I'm yet to see one without them, so ignore that bit.

The car is stunning, and seems to hit your spec requirements perfectly. These cars are relatively rare, but you don't want to dive in too quickly, equally you'd kick yourself if you lost it purely down to a relatively small sum of money. Agree on the brakes, sort the Bentley, then make the purchase. Well, at least that's what I'd do! Good luck thumbup

Never rush! I took 4 months to source my Aston and ended up with a better car at a better price and a better 3yr warranty than with any main dealer that didn't deal. Yes I got and expected a few thou off for no part ex too; it is the way!

It is just business at the end of the day so keep thoughts on business not being annoyed by individuals. Suggest you sort tbe Bentley, research the brakes and try sourcing away from main dealers maybe - they must get DBS models too - so make sure they have your number.

£145 admin fee for clinching a sale says so much...

Can you tell us what the 150 mile journey to you involved. The brake squeal problem may be very easily explained yes

Let's not go back onto the brake thing for gods sake.....mine are fine....with the car in question could just need the up rated pads , but would ensure the brakes are sorted ....tell em to fk off regarding the admin fee , more cars will come up...probably better ones.....

Evening tosser. My point was going to be that if the car has stood outside in the pissing rain and has been driven like Miss Daisy by the salesman there is every chance the brakes will squeal like you having to get your wallet out. It probably just needs a "good run out" to deglaze the brakes. I of course have no idea what the weather has been like in the UK for the last two weeks wink

I doubt squealing brakes would tax the workshop too much.
You have clearly made your mind up that this is the car for you which means your heart is just a little bit further into it than your head. I am also certain you know the deal you want its a case of how far you are prepared to move away from that to get the car. Do it life is short then you die.

I hope they wouldn't in this instance but in my experience the car went in with that specific issue, came back to me still squealing - they clearly didn't even test it before bringing it back to me mad

that is poor and I would ensure the service manager and Aston themselves knew how their customers cars are being serviced.

Morning.....ccm left outside in the rain.....the horror of it all......but you are right , a good session standing on the brake pedal could work.....

You always seem to be on holiday.....are you on the run or have booted out as a non desirable?.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

It was a completely dry sunny day for the whole 150 mile journey yesterday and the chap said the screeching brakes only started as he got close to me. It's a March 2010 model so I have serious concerns about this - and about them doing a proper job in rectifying the issue.

Misted headlamps not a problem.

£145 Used Car Administration Fee just sounds ridiculous to me. I am paying them asking price and now they want me to pay them this on top (and of course there is £500 for road tax)- are they in anyway connected to Ryanair? wink

The p/x price is really annoying me though. They knew it was soon due a service and had only done 1,000 miles since the last one (I was out of the UK a lot) and had already fully inspected it at their Derby branch with the warning light on and offered me a p/x price based on this. Now they are saying they didn't know about this - but only after I had signed everything but the Order Form (with this p/x price on it).

I'm just going to take the Bentley in early for a service (as I would have done if they had asked initially) and might even hang onto it over winter.

Right, moan over!

One thing I forgot to ask - is it right that the drivers seat has only an inch or so of height movement (even though the passenger seat has MUCH greater range of height travel)?

Thanks again!

Well done. Sounds like they thought they had you well and truly on the hook and are taking the piss. How to lose a near £100K sale over a few hundred quid.
