CAR WARS... The saga continues

There is still a DBS missing from my drive!

New problem is that due to new rules I have to sign the finance agreement at Oracle's office (because it is over £62k apparently). I couldn't get to them on Friday and so I could not take delivery on Saturday. No problem, I can do it tomorrow on Monday.

However, the salesman is now on holiday for a week I can't get the DBS until he is back. After everything so far having to wait another week is annoying in itself, but the final nail in the coffin is that the franchise manager has said that if someone else wants the car they will sell it to them - even though I have put down a holding deposit...???!!!

I can't really see this going any further now.

Any thoughts on this one?

High mileage but nearly £15 cheaper for the same MY. Doesn't satisfy my alcantara fetish but I can always get this done afterwards.

Cheers

Lmao. Ditch that dealer immediately and make you highlight to them that their service is crap.

What??? They really are taking the piss now. I cannot believe these people remain in business with tactics like this. Jokers. Will never enter one of their showrooms as a direct result of your experience. Walk in my opinion BUT I bet you will have all sorts of grief getting your deposit back. Tossers.

Wow, what a way to do business. So your finance will be in place on Monday but because their salesman is on holiday and they will not let you collect until he returns and they may sell it to someone else!!!! Is that right? So, if he was in work you could collect the car. Perhaps they might have another sales person who could do the handover? Difficult to understand unless he only gets commission if he does the handover? The franchise manager is probably sulking because you did your finance elsewhere!

From what you have said just shows their regard for customers. If they are like this now what are they going to be like if any problems crop up?

With your previous experience and this - walk away. Another one will come along - I know the one you have highlighted is cheaper but having had two meteorite V8V's I do not think it is as good a colour to look at as Casino and I would stick to your original budget and get a lower mileage car. Just my opinion of course.

WTF??? Definitely walk... Even if they were selling you a 2k run about it would be disgusting!!
I'm sure there will be other dealers that actually want your business...
I bought my DBS from same group.. And have to admit last week I have had work done at specialists because they actually know how to treat you and your P&J.. Considering I drove 160 miles round trip instead of 5 miles to my AM dealer so worth the effort

Good luck on your hunt... Register on aston approved to get updates on DBS that are up for sale and don't let this experience spoil that you will soon own your dream car!

That's just really taking the piss Julian.
I brought my DBS from the same group and was messed about for a few weeks in similar fashion then refused the car at first attempt due to the shockingly poor state it was in when I arrived. May have been a bit petty in some eyes but much time was spent on it prepping the paint ( which paddy sorted out PROPERLY once it was home) and a few other bits only for the wheel rims to be FILTHY and a damaged rim that they nor I had previously seen. Other issues they assured me were sorted ended up being fixed by Works after I had taken delivery several weeks after it was first promised.
I cannot believe the 'group' policies do not allow someone else to deal with the handover. I think they truly believe they are a law unto themselves but such shocking customer service does nothing for them or the brand in my opinion.
I truly hope it gets resolved to YOUR satisfaction sooner than later

Gosh Julian, you are clearly too much trouble for then to do business with. smile

They clearly do not want to sell you the car. You just can't take a hint!

My advice is to walk away and let them continue to admire it on their forecourt over the winter.

If you force it through it will leave a bad taste in your mouth and the service is hardly likely to get better after you've handed over your hard earned cash.

Others will come in the market.

Kept hunting!

Julian, not sure how fixed your budget is but if you have another £10k there is a 2012 Grigio Titanio DBS with 7k miles at Grange of Exeter - ask for Lloyd Newbery. Very unusual colour and well worth a look.

The only connection I have with Grange is that they have relieved me of substantial money as I have bought 3 Astons from them and they have always looked after me very well.

The initial part of your story portrayed dreadful customer service, but now it really is unbelievable.

This whole business of deposits is peculiar. They take the money following an enquiry, but what is the deal? In your case, it does not even seem to reserve the car for you to buy.

I was not even asked for a deposit, not that I would have paid anyway. When spending a large sum on a car, we all want to treated in a professional and business like manner.

You have been very patient Julian. I would have written to the CEO by now, and explained what he could do with his car and the bunch of amateurs employed.

The DBS you found is unlikely to be unique, so an even better one will probably appear at another dealer.

Sorry to read your story. Not how the joy of Aston Martin ownership should begin.

It's utter madness different dealers from the same group behave so differently. I bought mine from Hagley but the car was down in Cardiff. I knew the DP from my V8 purchase in Derby who had now moved to Hagley. When I called him to ask him "should I call Cardiff" he said no just leave it with me. Within 48 hours the deal was done and at no time was I asked for a holding deposit.

Talk about ruining almost every aspect of this experience for you. Shameful. Have you spoken to the dealer principal? Never keen to lose a sale over some nonsense... Anyway I'd get the Oracle firmly in place and drive a bloody deal on the next one (no Xmas rush on these...). Don't let on that you have finance elsewhere, just act like its cash. You only need to add the reg No to Oracle and the transfer in a day or two is good as cash. Bloody jumped up Arthur Daleys!

Hi All

Thanks once again for your comments. I have taken your advice and walked away.

I have to say I felt a massive wave of relief after doing so.

They have said they will refund my deposit and that they were sorry for the way things were handled.

Thanks once again for all your feedback, comments and support - without which I may have lost faith in Aston Martin altogether.

With respect ,I would have walked long ago.
I had me eye on a DBS Volante earlier this year.
When I phoned the well known dealer (not a main dealer),I was offered a very low figure for my car, that and some anecdotal stories about the dealer put me off going ahead.
The car was an unusual colour for a DBS that I liked and I have not seen another, but I can't be messed about when spending £115K on a car.

When I change my Cars I never let the dealer give me a figure for my Car I tell them I have an amount to spend plus my car if they can do the deal they can put whatever they want on the invoice it usually works if you have cash with you.
I know this is different but up to a point the same principal applies don't let the dealer tell you what your car is worth we all know how much cars are worth these days so walking away is the best way not to get stuffed no matter how much the car is desired.

Well done Julian!

You can enjoy the browsing for a little while longer. Many of us have had really good experiences buying. Hope you 'join' us eventually.

I bought from Harwoods at Chichester and continue to deal with them for service and Warranty work (minor stuff) since my purchase 2 years ago. Simply because they have been good and easy to do business with. Even though they are 100 miles way from me.

I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but to me they've been good.

Just grazing and noticed that it's now £3,500 cheaper and has a festive now on it.

See of they will knock off £500 if they keep the bow! smile
