Just been through Pangbourne, near Reading, and saw this!!

New AM dealer being built, with Bentley & Lamborghini. Went in and had a chat & a coffee and proper friendly bunch, might have to check them out when they're up and running.

Huh?

Broughtons, H R Owen, has been there for a few years now. Am I missing something?

Edit - I guess you just mean they are opening the AM side soon.

Sorry Gary, read that back and can see where you are coming from! Bentley & Lamborghini are staying where they are, and Aston is being added. Lambo is staying as it is, but Bentley is being completely re-configured, and Aston is being bolted to the side of the already existing building!

Hope this clears up my initially poor explanation ;-)

Broughtons don't exist anymore, it all HR Owen now!

I'm back up thee in a week or so (used to live in Pangbourne) and will take a gander. Have not seen a Huracan in the flesh yet,.

I went, I saw, I was quite impressed. Will definitely give them a go once they are up and running fully.

Well I went for a visit on Saturday.

The sales guy couldn't be more friendly and accommodating showing me the cars.

Orange Aventador and 3 Huracans along with 2 Diablos was a good way to start tube day.

I was quite taken aback by how compact the Huracan is. I would take the green one - lovely!!

Sales, maybe, but no service facility? Not yet, in any case... I used their online enquiry form to ask about routine servicing, and was referred to their Cheltenham branch!

For AM? The actual AM dealership building is still currently being built.

Neither yet but yes Sales first and then Service. Hopefully both by end January. Stil making the showroom building and adjustments for sales. Service will share with Lambo but facility needs some updating to meet AM standards.

Apparently, even though both owned by Audi, Bentley and Lambo have different service standards which must be met and Bentley are more relaxed than Lambo and neither are as stringent as AM which surprised me. This is what the chap showing me around told me in any case.

Please tell us the long story.

I think the 'official' version was; we need the space for Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo.

Also, don't forget it was Lancaster losing the Lamborghini dealership that enabled HR Owen to take that to Pangbourne.

AFAIK and can construe.. AM told Lancaster the space was not adequate or up to standard (or large enough*). Lanacaster agreed but did not want to make the required investment to improve and so were (you would assume mutually) terminated. When Lancaster became more aware of AM's future plans (around AMG and new CEO announcement time) they had a change of heart but too late and AM had engaged with HR Owen.

  • this bit about site size does not stack up and suggests that AM were otherwise un-enamoured with Lancaster since the space at HR Owen Pangbourne can hardly qualify as larger, though the plans do look quite impressive and Tardis like. In short I think there was more in play here regarding AM and Lancaster but this is pure speculation on my part and I am not privy to the detail. Lancaster Reading have hardly gained from it as I think Volvo will move into the old AM bit with probably a net loss in space. I think the Land Rover also needs upgrading/updating. Probably the only winners are Lancaster Jaguer (who ironically used to be on the Pangbourne site).

Aston Martin Reading is now official! I received an email yesterday saying they are up and running and able to Service & Sell cars, and they even invited me to `like` their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AstonMartinReading too. The showroom is still a building site from the looks of it, but the pictures of the workshop look lovely!

I think I'm going to pop down there at some point and get the `warm bum` Recall carried out and drink all their coffee ;-)

I'd be interested to see the difference in size - surely the old Lancaster plot was bigger in size. Or are they getting rid of Bentley and Lambo in Pangbourne and just focussing on AM? I'll have to pop along and take a look the next time I'm near Reading.

That's a brave move by Lovett's laugh...with dealers in Cheltenham, Cardiff, and another in Exeter! Competition is going to be rife in that area, perfect opportunity to play them off one another!
