Hello
Well, the N400 is still there, Marleen proposed me a N430 and now, well.....Came in another car, and after a lot of big boy maths and big child thinking, talking with a friend who is also an Aston owner (he owns a DB6, a DB7, a V8 and maybe a Vantage some day, plus some other cars ) I'm going for a V12V !

Budget is of course higher, but the car is something else.It is closer to my ex Porsche and I'm entering on some way in the world of supercars. A 510 BHP engine deserve some respect !...

Same conditions as for the N400,(unfortunately not the same price laugh) that car is beautiful, 2011, a 2010 MY, Hammerhead silver, Obsidian black inside with lightweight seats, front parking sensors, premium sound system and "smokers's Pack" (no single idea of what it is! This isn't a car for people smoking cigars and wearing slippers!biggrin ) 27000km, one year extended waranty, P Zero Tyres all around, new front splitter (guess why?) brakes are in good condition (carbon/ceramic disks...they aren't cheap!) and service done.

First owner of course, reason to sale: The previous owner bought a Vanquish...(it's a good reason indeed)

So, two weeks to go. Car is being prepared and hopefully I will have it the day just before Xmas...Thanks Santa....;)

I have some problems to sleep now...

I will never buy a car like this one without an extended waranty...and without the 140 points check from an offical dealer...

Aston's bits prices aren't cheap, and so many things can happen.
I bought the car on the condition to have full history, (including repair and maintenance bills), and Marleen sold that car new, so she is aware of most of what happened to it.
I spoke to the mechanic too (Tom) he knows the car pretty well, and garanties it is in prime condition.
Times are harder and harder to make that kind of money, it will be silly to trow it on any car without precations...
I drove the N400 (4.3), the N430 (4.7) and the V12V...it is more and more power and more and more efficiency. just upgraded every time. But there is of course, as everybody says a serious difference between a 4.3 and a 4.7. The V12 being something else. (on cold raods like now a little too much trottle in thirt gear and wheels are spinning...P Zero effect maybe?)

Congratulations Stefwings! The V12V is a wonderful car and in my opinion the ultimate expression of the Vantage. You will love it, especially with the lightweight seats, they suit the car so well.

A minor point but in the photo of the rear of the car there is a wet patch on the ground which is otherwise dry. I didn't notice that mine had something similar when I test drove it only to find when I got it home that it was leaking oil from the gearbox oil cooler. Just get them to make sure that yours isn't leaking something from the back too.

Good luck with sleeping for the next 2 weeks. You have no chance hehe

Thank for the tip, I will ask them to check that potential oil leak....cool

And yes, it's a quick upgrade but the proposal is very attracting and well, you only live twice.

I'm couting the hours....

Great story and congratulations on your decisions on parade without actually going via the V8 route. Enjoy - not too long to wait!

Stefwings... how funny. I just came on here to ask questions about the V12.

I drove the N400 and it wasn't the one for me. for starters it was in pretty poor condition which put me off a lot. I just gave me a negative feeling to see condensation in all the light boxes, scratches everywhere, inside and out. couldn't believe this super-nice Aston dealership even let it on the forecourt... Nice, solid driving car, but not the power to weight ratio that does it for me. too many palmer sport days perhaps.

I was going to test drive a V8s today but put it off. have my heart set on a V12 after hearing it in the car park and also deciding that if I'm going to buy another car, in order to make it super special compared to what I already have it's got to be nearer 500bhp.

I'm little concerned that if I buy a £85K+ car today that in 18 months it could only be worth £60K.

I've got the money but loathe the idea of losing £25K on a car in 2 years. then again I have zero concept of what residuals are on the V12, Thoughts???

the only other choice I like at the moment, after watching tons of videos on youtube is a 997 Turbo. yes, I know Porkers have a pretty negative wrap... but kind of feel the Turbo is in a different league. and can't help but like the sound of a 480BHP supercar for nearer £50K

thoughts?
tks

My decision was a weigh up between the 997 Turbo S and the Vantage. I too drove the N400 and wasn't impressed. Go and drive a 4.7 version soon! Why I choose the Aston over the Porsche was that I couldn't see where I would use the Porsche's power. I mean the acceleration is so brutal but to use that day to day, I would loose my licence in a week! The Aston's power was more suitable for the road. It was also £25k cheaper which is a lot of cash to go and do something else with. I also thought I might get a bit board of the Porsche with the PDK and 4WD.

Will the V12s drop much? It's hard to say as they are the pinnacle of the Vantage range and I have a feeling the next gens will be more Merc then Aston. However I still believe the V8 is the special car, partly because that is the only car the V8 is used in and the car was originally designed for the V8. 420bhp is enough for any road and if you want more BR can take it to 470bhp for around £6k. Plus you can save a fortune over a V12 (£30-60k) and effectively everything but the engine is the same. If I was going V12 I'd go for a DBS as they are a bit of a bargain and definitely won't drop much.

Well, in my opinion there are some positive points to buy a V12V.
First one being that the V12V is the last one to be proposed with a manual box. In my eyes, it is a plus, because you "live" with te car a lot more as a semi automatic ...
yes, there is a risk of depreciation in the two next years, (if you look well, you can find a car on his bottom value) but I'm not concerned about it because I want to make it a keeper, and we are living the last moments of these supercars, we are going to hybrid and all kind of strange technology cars, this is an ending world....So, there will be always people to love the "old fashion" style, like there are people loving to drive a 70's car...
About a Porsche, no, thanks...had a lot of them,(7) and i'm bored...yes, it is strong power, yes, it is very drivable, yes, it is super efficient, but it is still an old car...And you can find 996 turbos at bargain prices, wich means depreciation is even faster as for a V12 also because production numbers are much more important (only 1000 V12 build)Way less exclusive, not the same world, not the same image...A Porsche is so common...
And not dreaming about reliablity of Porsches, they have also problems, like any other car, time of the air cooled unbreakable engines is over , if you want to play a little with the trottle, they are also very thirsty, no miracles there)

there was a joke about someone hesitating between a Jaguar and a Mercedes....
the client test drove a Jaguar, was very happy with it, but was still hesitating for a Merc...
the vendor asked
"do you want to test drive a Mercedes?"
"yes, of course" answered the client
"Ok, no problem.....hep, TAXI!"...(in Belgium, most of the taxis are Mercedes)

I think there you have your answer...
About Aston Vantage, you can find a lot of cars with very low mileage, in excellent condition, the main rule being patient...
look around, drive them all, and find just the car of your dreams...
that's how I did...
