Geeez chill out peeps, my comments weren't meant in a nasty or negative way hence the smiley. For me, even owning one of these cars is a great privilege and I've been very lucky to acquire such a great iconic car on a relatively tight budget.

To me, modifying such a car is pointless......it's akin to touching up or painting over part of your Rembrandt or Turner because you don't quite like that bit.......sacrilege!

And yes, each to their own, but this is my opinion, and I'm happy to use my car as little as I like or more without worrying that other people on here may judge me.

I guess the point i was trying to make was that it's good to come on here asking about how a car handles, running costs, ownership experiences, etc etc when you're looking at buying one. But to actually modify one requires you to own such a car first, and if that's your main reason for buying one of these fine machines then I think it's rather sad.

Thanks.

You should try the McLaren forum........ Ferrari, Porsche owners, and others would have never owned or even driven a McLaren, seem to be on a mission to destroy the brand and on the offensive.... But I digress !

I never thought the V12V was not loud enough. It is beautiful and forceful.
The Vanquish sounds better though (with the windows down !).

2nd stage decat is a worthwhile upgrade (to straight through rather than the stock ones), do that first before changing back box too, you'll be surprised.

Changing 2nd stage is relatively cheap too... ScuderiaSystems will sell you the pipes for about £500, then just get them fitted. (I don't work for them or anything , btw mods).

Makes a huge difference over just removing the fuse... Backbox will be another £3k, so do just the pipes first and see what you think wink

Oh, and it doesn't affect emissions either, will still pass MOT no problems).

Not quite true - it may well pass the emissions test, but if the person taking the MOT test knows the car is supposed to be fitted with a cat at which point they are obliged to fail it. So in order for it to pass the test you need to have it done by somebody who knows nothing about Aston's - which is obviously not a good idea!

It still has the main/first Cat, this is just the 2nd stage, at the rear near the backbox... Shouldn't be a problem I think.

Not quite correct

But TBH who, other than a dealer, would know the two rear cats had been removed whistle

Ah, ok, well, you live n learn! Although like you say, not many people will know.

The parts look exactly the same, only when you look through them it's a bit obvious!

Ok it's 10 years later, but just to say...removed the parcel shelf on new-to-me V12 Vantage S.

Wow! Now that's the sound in the cabin I was looking for

I'm also interested on others' take on engine noise...i.e. from the big lump out-front. None comes into the cabin, is it because the V12 is so refined?

Until now, coming from the Porsche forum, all I've known is the noisy Metzger behind my head in the 993 Carrera...where engine noise & induction noise dominated the sonic experience, and (standard) exhaust is not something you really hear in the cabin.

Very different cars of course!

Took my v12v down to power flow exhausts yesterday to see if they cuod cut an x pipe into the centre section to make it a little quieter (I’ve read it might help). However due to the tunnel being so narrow the x pipes they had wouldn’t fit in the tunnel!

So looking for another exhaust shop now who can fabricate a narrower x pipe rather than off the shelf.

Mine has primary cat delete, secondary high flows and a quick silver back box. It’s very loud. But as an occasional car I can live with it, and like the actual sound, would just rather a higher pitched howl at higher revs and not quite as boomy at 2-3k rpm.

I’m not an expert but from my experience you’d need to be looking at different manifolds to produce a higher pitched sound.
