They aren't (as you're well aware!) wink He will need the manifolds as well to get any noticable gains (other than noise).
Cats combined with the airbox change release 20 horses.

I've had it confirmed by a reliable company that Cats and Airbox will add 20BHP and additional low end torque. The manifolds will add an additional 20BHP on top. All the S has over the standard car is the air box, nothing else in the engine is any different.

More research shows Cats add 12bhp and the Airbox 10bhp, so 22bhp for c£2k..... even better! smile

When you say 'Airbox', do you mean the AM Power Upgrade kit?

That usually goes for >£2k alone: http://www.astonmartinparts.net/Parts/V8-Vantage-2...

Its not the air box on the S that makes the difference its the gearing and reduced power loses through the ASM2 box

I think he means the air filter boxes first fitted to the N400

That's right, the power pack is for the 4.3l engine. The Airbox upgrade is the N400 airbox that's used on the S to give it 10bhp more then the standard car. It's just the box that holds the air filter and allows greater airflow in, and the cats allow greater airflow out.

I guess the ASM II advantages are only relevant if you don't want a manual.

That's right, but only the valved airboxes are needed for the 4.7l, and they're not quite £2k. wink

Here is a link to the part found standard in the 4.7l - http://www.astonmartincarparts.com/part/astonmarti...

Here is a link to the part found standard in the 4.7l S (why it has 10bhp more)- http://www.astonmartincarparts.com/part/astonmarti...

$567 each. So, probably £500 each (plus VAT) so £1200 for the pair. (Plus £2k for your 200 cell cats). So nearer to £3k for your 20bhp.

20bhp is arguably still not that noticeable. I imagine that you will soon be pining for the BR manifolds. (At a guess, that's probably another 20-30bhp). Now, you would notice 50 extra horses. biggrin

I'm glad you're not my Forex trader!

Trust me BravoV8V, there is a supplier out there who everyone knows on here, who will do a stage 1 performance package, which includes airboxes and 200 cell cats amongst other things, for around £2k. I'm not making this up. Reviews from other people who have had this done, is that the difference is VERY noticeable. I will let you know in December wink

The original point was that you can save a lot of money by buying a standard 4.7l car and having the upgrades, rather then paying the £10-15k premium of the S, if you want a manual car.

Ah, rightio. So your original "I'm getting 200cell cats and a sport switch put in for £2k in December" wasn't the full story.

You could save even more if you buy an early 4.3 for £30k and then get the full manifold/cats/clutch/suspension treatment done. wink

PS I am one of those 'other people' that you refer to. You'll love the car even more when you get it back in January. But you'll still hanker after the manifolds. wink

Can anyone tell me whether this is a V8 or a V8S roadster. I supstect a V8 as it's a March 2011 car.

http://www.hwmastonmartin.co.uk/sales/v8-roadster-...

However the pistonheads ad says it's a Vantage S, so possibly a press car ? :

Not ready to talk to HWM yet about the car yet - still deciding on the colour and whether to change.

Thanks, I knew i'd seen one that colour before - didn't realise it was the same car Tom Hartleys' was advertising for quite a while.
