Hello - the attached 2008 year V8 Vantage Roadster is for sale in Vancouver. $89,900 translates into 51,048 pounds and 64,551 euros based on current Bank of Canada exchange rates. Does anyone have any thoughts as to potential barriers for this car given only 12,000kms/7,449kms. What should a buyer be wary about? Does the price from a local perspective seem reasonable? Obviously not easy to translate.

You can get a 4.7l variant for that money. Don't focus on the mileage! A family friend who worked for Aston advised me when I was buying mine to buy one that had been driven, I.e. Not one that sat in a garage and only taken out a few times a month for a thrash. He said when he was there, these were the cars that had all the problems, whereas the guys who we're putting on 12k a year would have few, only the consumables.

I would be very cautious of a car with such a low mileage. This is 1k miles a year which is only 4 tanks of petrol per year. That means the fuel was sitting in the tank going stale for three months before being sucked through the engine.... Fuel starts to degrade after only 3 weeks (here's a BP document that explains the process http://www.bp.com/content/dam/bp-country/en_au/med...

My advice would be to go for a 4.7l with a few more miles on it.

The local market is a bit thin at the moment, but here's a 2009 4.7 for the same money: http://wwwb.autotrader.ca/a/Aston+Martin/V8+Vantag...

That's much better and a more reassuring mileage. Get some Swissvax leather cleaner on that shiny leather and it'll look brand new.

The whole don't buy a low mileage example I am not sure is correct. I bought a 4 year old car with only 5000 miles on it and it has been fault free. What is nice about a low miles car is that the interior and exterior are like new. The leather has no creases on it and the bodywork is not covered in stone chips. If a car is used every 2 or 3 weeks but taken for a proper drive each time there should be no ill effects to the car. As regards petrol sitting in the car the answer is not to fill the tank and you will have to refuel more often even if doing reduced miles.

There are two trains of thought here, I'm just repeating what an AM employee advised me. Maybe people don't always fill their tanks up, regularly add fresh fuel and allow oil pressure to build before sparking the engine when the cars been sat around for a while. I would personally prefer a car that's been regularly driven, than used as a toy, but that is just my opinion.

@ 80,000 US the car seems expensive to me.

I would expect it to be in the high 60's to low 70's dollar wise,(about $75,000 to $80,000 CDN but Aston Martins like other prestige brand sports cars are always sold at a premium in Canada as the market is smaller than the US.

No problem with the low miles, it is more of a problem with 20 year old garage queens than this 6 year old example.

Not completely filling the fuel tank is a mistake, as the fuel pump is cooled by the gasoline that surrounds and passes through it, also the filters will get clogged quicker as crap that floats on the surface of the fuel gets sucked in.

IMO, a well-cared for daily driver such as Barnezy's car can be a great buy -- it should be less expensive than a lower-mileage car, and SOME low-mileage cars that sit a LOT can give trouble. However, as has been said, a low-mileage car that is used relatively regularly (not one that routinely sits for many months) can and should also be reliable. My experience: MY09 V8V owned from new (late '09). Now has 7500 miles -- obviously a weekend fun car. The only thing that has failed was the AM band on the radio. Great car.

All very true but the problem is knowing how the car has been used over its mileage.
Also the reliability is a lottery no matter how well you care for it ( based on both my roadsters)
