Note to self, after a day of heavy rain, if forst is forecast, leather down the windows and door handles the night before.

Took some getting in the car this morning. A lot of beaded water icicles. Fortunately my detailing spray worked as a de-icer which got the foor handle unstuck and the credit card trick (learned fom owning an Audi A5)along the window seal unstuck the window so it could drop (have heard in extreme cases of Audi windows shattering through brute force attempts at slamming doors shut without the windows dropped).

Any other tips for icy mornings?

Thanks Lotto!

Mind you at least having de-iced I am more aware of the prevailing road conditions and the ice warning is straight on. Would not get that in a heated garage!

Same problem here. I ordered a 12v hairdryer from Amazon a few moments ago. My thinking is that if I can get in the boot (not always easy when iced up) I can plug this in to the conditioner socket and gently heat the seals around the windows. I have no idea if this will work.

Best/easiest option is just to fill up the kettle (or jug/bucket) from the hot tap (no hotter) and then pour over the windscreen/door glass, etc.
This will remove ice, unstick wipers AND defog the inside of the glass.

Some say there is a risk of breaking the glass from the heat, but I have done it in all weathers for 30+ years on all cars without a problem..

Tepid water all the way, doesn't stink like de-icer either and leaves the windows clear.

I de-ice my other daily car using the kettle/water straight from the cold tap - I used to use lukewarm water but found there was no difference and water from the mains tap is just as effective. Might be different if your in a sub-zero place of residence mind you.

You're right I'm going to look like a right **** using a hairdryer. I have no idea why I posted that idea in a public forum.

I have just shown the good lady the pictures of your cars tucked-in in their heated garage. She said something along the lines of 'get off your arse and clear the garage then". It is a bit of a shambles to be honest.

Do tell Mrs Neveratt the garage isn't heated and would she mind pouring you another glass of wine whilst you formulate a plan to clear the tip she refers to as a garage biglaugh

IMHO, if you keep your car(s) clean enough to keep a cover on it/them, then you are not using it/them enough!
If anyone needs help with getting the DBS out and about (don't forget that petrol in the tank goes off after 3 weeks), then let me know!

If you look closely the amount of crap I keep in the rafters can be seen. The covers are to stop the dust and st that falls when I'm putting stuff up there. Fear not both cars get properly used but many thanks for your kind offer thumbup
