Some hot news - apparently Aston Martin are to build a V12 Vantage GT3. 50 in total, 25 for the US the rest for the UK. Car will boast 600BHP and be in excess of 100 Kg lighter than the V12S. It's Carbon Fibre body panels will echo the shape of the race car. This will be the very last incarnation of the V12 Vantage. Plan is to relieve prospective customers of £15000 deposit then when the final spec is chosen follow that with a further £50000. Estimated price , circa £250000.

Collected our new GT3 today, I am even tempted to post some pictures but will refrain other than to say Wow!!!

So, the V12VS is not quick enough for the road.

We eventually worked out that the car filmed being tested at Nurburgring, was a V12, and possibly with a sequential gearbox.

I wonder if Aston Martin will sell these on a 'Ferrari XX' basis. Gaydon will keep and look after your car at the factory, then have it transported to a circuit with pit crew (for a fee of course), whenever the owners need a fix.

Oh, and thank you for not posting any photographs of your 911.
I expect they might already be on a forum that I never look at. smile

It has to be called a GT4, or GT5 - at least one, or preferably two better. smile

Sounds like it will be an incredible car. But at an incredible price. However I suspect they won't depriciate much if they really are only making 50.

But GT4 is a lower class than GT3!

If you're looking for circa 600bhp from your V12V it's probably cheaper to go to Bamford Rose. Obviously if you own the TB version of the Vantage this isn't an option wink

Wonder where the weight loss comes from? Carbon fibre is not much lighter than aluminium. I expect they'll get a fancy exhaust made by someone like Akrapovic (they did 997 GT2 titanium exhaust) remove the stereo, replace aluminium torque tube with magnesium, replace heavy battery with lithium ion. So nothing that's cutting edge. The AMG black series style flared wheel arches in that green hell photo did look cool, in a slightly over the top way...

95% of the public (including me ) would not dream of having after market kit fitted to our cars (no disrespect to BM) to compete with a factory product.

Many congrats to Rob and Molly for their new porker......looking forward to the pictures smile

True, but as awesome as this car sounds, 99% of the public wouldn't/couldn't dream of spending £250k on a Vantage either!

no disrespect taken, i understand the rationale behind reason to modify or not, but to generalise 95% of folk think same as you is incorrect.

why- i know 5% of V12V Zagato is already enhanced, and it wont be too long before greater than 5% of total V12V population is enhanced also. Dont forget there is choice of tuning outfits across many countries too, so total production population being more than 5% enhanced is low projection.

and this statement is today, in 2020 when resale value might be taken out of equation and cars driven by power hungry petroleum heads, the take up rate will no doubt be more. So in lifetime of car, your 5% like minded estimation is just that, a wrong estimation imho.

not to be picky but if 5% of V12 and Zagato's have been modified then my wild guess was pretty accurate...there are probably 30,000 (I'm guessing again ) Gaydon cars of which probably less than 1% have been modified it's not what the average Aston owner wants or has the slightest interest in. They want box standard cars with the only after sale modification probably being new grey matts when the old black ones look a bit worn.

But I totally respect businesses like yours who offer petrol heads with deep pockets the opportunity to have unique cars

You need to look at the correct forum Michael - suggest you check out the Porsche side if you want to see pictures of Pork biggrin

Depends how much you want to spend - A secondary decat on a V12 is IMHO a very cheap option to enhance ones car and give it that something 'extra' and does not need deep pockets. As I have said before I believe my DBS was one of the first to have the bypass pipes fitted and there have been many others since gone down the same route. Even some 'poor' people have had it done biggrin

Admittedly high gains can cost more but in comparision to a £200k car TBH mods would be small change.

Isn't there a saying about speed just being a question of money - how fast do you want to spend it hehe

and the V12V Zagato is a perfect example. I don't believe it ever reached the original perceived production numbers

if I thought it was all about speed for my money then I would be driving a Nissan GT-R and not an Aston Martin ........Iv'e owned very fast cars since I was 25 and I rarely drive at more than 100MPH (when I'm in Germany) which is probably why Ive had a clean licence for the past 20 years

As you say CF body not much lighter but I believe the zag ended up (surprisingly) being sufficiently lighter to be measurable, although the factory never released actual figures

Actually though, they could save an awful lot of weight whilst keeping the car at least or more civilised than a GT3 RS, i.e. not going as extreme as the track only cars like the N24 Top Gear took to the Alps

I don't think they will for one moment, but they could and it's not difficult. Remove stereo as you say, remove air con, possibly the lighter battery, remove boot trim, replace all leather inside (down side of centre console, dash, etc) with alcantara or some other light fabric, change rear window to plexi, put on magnesium lightweight wheels, slightly thinner side windows, replace complete interior door trim with CF panels from the race cars, remove electric motors from seats, remove electrics from windows, remove electrics from mirrors, remove cruise control, remove sat nav - there really is a lot that can be done

As I say, I don't expect them to do it but it would be more than feasible and acceptable (to buyers) on a limited run of 50/100 track focussed road legal cars to lose the levels of refinement described above and actually that could reduce far more than 100kg of weight

On the power side, I suspect they will do very little, perhaps a mild retune offering 20-30bhp more. I'd be amazed if they did more to the exhaust than a new backbox, which still leaves room to decat/change manifolds if you wish

Bearing in mind the premiums charged for zagato and taraf however, if this new V12V is to have a CF body and be 'just' £250k, in reality, I can't see them doing very much at all to reduce weight inside in the manner described above - it's very sad but AML rarely follow through in the way they could with genuine upgrades to performance/weight on these ltd ed cars.

to say 5% of total production will be enhanced is different to original point of 5% of one variant, especially when that variant is in bracket of enthusiast owner and likely to enhance vs a owner, lets say like Rapide, which is unlikely to ever modify. Which is why given time, dont be surprised more than 5% of certain models will be enhanced, but no point to split hairs about 5% or rationale of majority keeping car std, like you i clearly see both sides to something where there is no right or wrong answer.
My main point is that for accuracy, the % likely modified comment needed reference against time. This is because vast majority of heritage cars are now far from spec they left the factory at. Example, in the days of DB4 the thinking was probably the same, keep a totally std car. Since then a race series happened an a non standard engine improvement became the norm, now when vast majority go wrong / in need of rebuild they are not rebuilt to std factory spec, and probably 5% remain std and the majority at enhanced / non factory original spec, and those at enhanced spec are seen as value added. Given time the same will happen to new era, much like now value added enhancements make original vanquish more desirable.

if 5% of people have actually done it, then your guess of 95% of people "wouldn't dream of it" probably isn't accurate at all.

Also with the V12V, we're not talking about the "average" Aston owner as it's a more focused drivers car than the more GT end of the range. So already it's people that want a more aggressive car in the first place, so gains above the factory spec might be more appealing than across the whole Aston demographic.
