Just had a phone call from Stratstone Wilmslow to tell me my car is ready for collection after it's 9th annual service.......so my DB9 is nine years old and apart from a slight leak from the aircon pipe (which I knew about as the air con needed topping up 6 months ago) and a rattle from behind the dashboard, my car has no other faults. It's been the same every year for the 5 years of ownership........ok, in year one I had the normal leak from the timing chain covers but it's arguable if it needed new gaskets , but as it was under warranty at the time, I had it done.

The Mercedes SL500 which I sold on Wednesday has had £6000 worth of repairs (. 6 different faults)and was off the road 12 weeks during my 58 weeks of ownership.

The Aston has been a wonderful car and I'm keeping hold of it smile.

Yet again, many thanks to Stratstone's who have looked after all 3 of my Astons

If it's worth saying once, it's worth saying thrice...

I had an equally trouble free 12 months of motoring. Except the brake pads being on fire, which doesn't seem to be a problem...But I blame Bob (Y100) for that. smile

I've only had 1 year out of 5 of trouble free. Thought this year was going to be the 2nd until one of the front led sidelight units needed replacing. Mind the cost of that more than made up for the trouble free year.

I thought that I would have no problems when my car recently went in for a service and MOT.

Nope failed the MOT. I then get a phone call, the nearside road spring is broken (so that's why she has been handling like a pig eek) there is an issue with the air conditioning condenser and the front headlight washer pump needs replacing! (all those under warranty thank God) Oh and my hand brake pads are below minimum and need replacing, so hand in pocket for those.cry

Well springs do break.....and the handbrake pads are only £55 from memory, and any local garage will fit them while you wait

1. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
2. This is a bit suspicious, George avoided coming to the D&D claiming an attack of manflu .
Could it be that you and he have been in very close proximity ?
3. Lady boys have been dispatched to give you a " tonic "

Just out of interest, how do hand break pads wear out, when they are seperate to the rear calipers? I mean they do zero breaking as the car should be stopped when you apply them, so next to zero friction wear.

ive always wondered that too as I had mine replaced a few years back. I can understand the rear pads may be used by the DTC so wear abnormally, but not the hand brake pad. I think mine were replaced because they just disintegrated/fell apart from age....and sticking on occasionally when wet/left for extended periods

Had mine (AMV8 4.3) for 5 years now, never let me down, renewed air con condenser (holed) tyres and brake pads, not a daily driver, but kept on the drive and used for fun and track days 39000 miles, my daily driver a 2003 SL500 indicates a fault at least once a month, the car is a nightmare and has no value as a trade in, worst car ever.
