Was just calling my dealer to chat about a service and was told that there is a new recall out for Vantages from 2006 with 2-stage heated seats. I don't know up to which MY it runs - I'm on an 08. There may be others affected and I am sure someone here has a more complete picture...

This is what I found.

AML said:
Damage to the insulation of the electrical harness that controls the seat heater can lead to a component failure in the electronic control module of the seat heater mat.
In a vehicle with a failed electronic control module, if the ignition is switched on, there is a permanent power feed to the seat heater mat.
What are the hazards?
If the defect occurs, it is possible that a driver or passenger may be unable to turn the seat heater off. As a result the seat heating components can become hot enough to cause a localized area of the seat to overheat and smolder potentially causing injury.

I'm assuming this applies to vehicles in all regions that use the specified part? I'm in the US and have an 07 with the two-stage heated seats. Looks like I should be giving my dealer a call?

I wonder if mine gets recalled the seats might actually warm up, always found them very tame.

The seat heater in my wife's '07 M-B, when it was about 3 years old, burned a hole in the seat -- and burned my wife (not horribly, fortunately, but it was rather "unpleasant").

Strange. I find once mine have warmed up they are too hot on the high setting. Low is just about right

Popped in to Stratstone today and booked mine in for the recall to be done Friday. Apparently it is the control unit which can fault and leave the seats permanently on. In this weather that's the default setting anyhow so no dramas.

My seats on high are just warm enough to heat your back. Low setting just takes the chill out of the leather. In comparison the 5 stage heated seats in my Cayenne turbo will par boil you after number 3 if left on for any length of time.

Yes has been mentioned on here before, some seem to be more efficient than others. In fact now I think about it, I wonder if the high setting is even working.

Did the heated seats change as the model progressed as MY06 only has on off, I presume this will still be part of the recall? Looking at the recall it does not appear to cover MY05 so perhaps I have older seats?
