I have just purchased a 2011 V8VS Roadster that should arrive in about a week. Having sold my very modified Porsche 996 turbo I'm ready to settle down into something a little more drivable. Having not owned a convertable since college I am curious to know how many here have or use a wind deflector? They do distract from the beautiful lines of the car a bit but does seem practical. The car does not come with one but living in California the weather is perfect for top down driving most of the year. So tell me.... worth having or not?

I don't know about that. I have tried driving without it, and the buffeting and wind noise is much higher. Certainly, you can live with it (Especially in Californina), but I leave mine in all year round.

If you want to avoid buffeting above 70mph then I think one is needed. It really does make quite a difference. I have driven ours in Spain and it isn't down to temperature it is more about comfort. If that doesn't bother you then go without.

Only you can tell really. Perhaps try without and then if it is too much then get one.

I don't think I will mind not having it, but the Mrs. may insist!

Mine rules on that which is why we have one on ours. We did try once without and she wasn't happy with the resulting hair style smile

As IanV12VR and I are both lacking in the follicle department a wind deflector is not a must, however we are both overruled by our respective ladies and I have to say that once you get going at proper speeds the difference with or without is definitely noticeable.
Personally I don't think the deflector detracts from the looks, the only possible downside is that it can sit very very close to the roof lining and can rub slightly if left in place whilst lowering and raising the roof.

It also stops the rear belts from flapping.

I've done just shy of 30k miles in my Vantage roadsters nearly all of them roof down in all sorts of weather
IME the wind deflector is a waste of space taking up valuable storage space and ruining the looks

Just get some hats wink

Even though the deflector is nicely designed and fits neatly into the space with a satisfying click, to me the thin frame and mesh always looks temporary and detracts from the sleek lines.

I do without it, despite the high speed advantages.

If you really want comfort above all else, wear a hooded anorak. Or put the top back up.

Or get one with a proper roof in the first place.

Interesting responses. It sounds like if I use the wind deflector I most certainly will lose my Man Card. However, as usual the Man Card will always be trumped by the Wife Card? I'll give it some time and see how this plays out.
