Analogue clock sync niggle
Discussion
Over the last week I've noticed that the analogue clock in the dash is 1min different to the digital clock. No matter what I change the time to, they remain 1min out from each other - its as if the hands have slipped.
No idea if its always been this way or its a recent thing and I know its only a tiny niggle, but it is very annoying now that I am aware of it. I Never realised how often I looked at the analogue clock to be honest.
Is there a fix other than giving oneself a good slap for being overly picky?

Adam, does the analogue clock not have two little recessed buttons underneath it? (it was this way in my V8). If so you can press in the right hand one with a matchstick or the like and move it on 1 minute. If that won't work, then there is no need to slap yourself, what about a bit of duck tape over the digital time on the nav?

No - looking at pictures in google I think that was only on the 4.3 centre console. For some reason the 4.7 centre console seems to have lost these two little holes. Prooves that it can be done though - so probably a service job now I'm guessing.AdamV12V said:

I have exactly the same on my car (mine is c3 mins out).No idea if its always been this way or its a recent thing and I know its only a tiny niggle, but it is very annoying now that I am aware of it. I Never realised how often I looked at the analogue clock to be honest.

The dealer told me that it needs to come back in to be synchronised.

That's what they told me.
I was surprised, to say the least.
+1I was surprised, to say the least.
But had to have my 2012 DBS (with Garmin) done at Works. Needs a system reset - battery disconnect to re-sync as there is no way to manually adjust it other than in 15m increments

That's crazy - so the engineers have to reconnect the battery at precisely the right minute otherwise they have to wait another 15mins for the next attempt? No wonder mine is 1min out - sounds like they have done reasonably well getting it that accurate.
No quite!! I assume the analogue clock (which gets its signal from the sat nav clock so far as I know) just correctly re-sync's to the sat nav time and BOTH then show the correct (sat nav)time when power is restored.I guess the analogue ones do not hold good time and will only re-sync when the power is restored. Mine was done in, erm, May I think and its about 2 minutes out again now which I think was overlooked at service time in November
The analogue and digital dash clocks are set automaticaly by the sat nav. If the sat nav time is set manually then the analogue clocks hands will move to the selected time so it might be worth trying a manual set to something like 12:00 and see if the hands are lined-up OK, and then set back to auto and the clocks will reset to the correct time.

Hmmm, thanks - sounds like its worth a try. I didn't even realise you could set the sat nav manually - I just though that like the analogue clock that it received its time from the main "set clock" setting on the dash. Will give that a try tonight.TuonoPants said:

That doesn't work (at least on my car).whoami said:

That doesn't work (at least on my car).So the workshop had to sort it - Crazy but true! And no guarantee it will not happen again.

To clarify; my experience is with a 2013 car and the Garmin sat nav, I guess it may be different with the older system.TuonoPants said:
Just went out and checked just to make sure that I hadn't imagined it and it bahaved as I described, set the clock to 0:00 and the hands went round to twelve. Then set it back to automatic and they spun back to 8:30. This is on a Vantage, not sure is that has any relevance.
Well sadly it doesn't work on mine (pre-garmin). There isn't a manual clock set option in the sat nav to try. So will get it sorted the next time the car is with the dealer.I have just bought a nearly new Vantage S V8 with the new Garmin Sat Nav and this problem is there on my car too.
We can berate ourselves for being picky .. or we can suggest to Aston that this stupid stupid 'bug' for that is what it appears to be, is fixed and sorted with new software or what ever it takes. I moved to Aston from Porsche, and though I do love my new car, I don't feel particularly minded to tolerate the 'little foibles'.. especially as I had my Porker for 14 yrs from new without it skipping a beat, and because its a £100k+ car.. !
Rant over, this problem is known by Aston and the only way you can get the clocks in sync is to (apparently) disconnect the battery and get it to reset.. Now, I am a software geek and this does strike me as the IT crowd support response of ' Have you tried switching it off and on again? '..
Come on Aston, get your corporate fingers out and sort this!! .. and while you're at it.. why has the plastic cover fell off my headlamp washer because I had the temerity to use it? .. sorry, off piste I know, but so far.. not impressed.
