Hi

I have been for a while thinking of buying a DBS and was wondering if you gents and ladies (If there any with one) can give me some pointers (good and bad) about them. I have already got a copy of Grants book which has given me a few useful hints etc.

I am un-decide between a Coupe or Volante but I want a low milage late model year car.

So please give me your worst!

Andy

Don't think, just do it. What are you looking for from us guys? Every owner on here will tell you the same, they are stunning biggrin

I suppose you need to know that if the CCM's are used hard they will wear out and are expensive to replace. By hard I do mean track type use driving

probably a bit different from your TVR's but it's interesting to note how many Ex TVR owners end up buying Astons........DBS coupe is by far the better car unless you must haver the roof cut off for the 2 weeks a year when you can really enjoy it

I drive a 2013 DB9.2, only because they stopped making the DBS the year before (2012). I don't ever remember reading a single bad comment about a DBS (CCM brakes aside). In my humble opinion, the DBS is the most visually appealing Aston that Gaydon has produced.

I wouldn't even be too bothered about age either - only the first year or so didn't have the B&O as standard. There's a tasty convertible one at Hagley which is also manual... I could be tempted myself

Not sure what the consensus of opinion is over manual v auto ?

Just buy it, think later.

I don't even have one, but if I had the funds, I would take my own advice.

I was sorely tempted by a DBS. Magnificent car. In the end I went for a V12VS because it has a bigger boot. (Not really). Not sure of your budget, or Man vs Auto preference, but this one is rather nice:

No trying to be pedantic here, but saying the B&O was standard after the first year or so kinda' implies that it was therefore an option to be fitted. Up to chassis #753, they are equipped with the Alpine Premium and from #754 onward B&O. The B&O was designed specifically for the DBS but was not ready in time, hence the use of the Alpine system.

what car do you drive now ? I ask because I went into the dbs from a series of 500+bhp cars with 4wd ,the lack of traction comes as a shock and I really had to re-learn old driving skills ,you actually have to drive the car and use the throttle ,as opposed to most modern cars that you can just fling about.

I'm only going off the Gareths book that says "Oct 08... B&O.. now standard equipment" but the point still holds true - the car either has it or doesn't

^^^+1 What he said. I did and love it. The best looking Gaydon era car you could buy.

The choosing is all part of the special Aston Martin experience.

If you are buying to perhaps keep, the DBS (manual will be special in future) is expected to become a collectors model.

The Casino Royale DBS at Brentwood is one that I would consider, if I was looking for a second Aston.
A 2009 model year car, beautiful colour, modest mileage and who knows, at that price there might not be much more depreciation before values begin to rise.

Enjoy your search. Condition is everything, but there are lots of ‘still as new‘ Astons about.

Hi

Thank you all for your comments, most of which are what I was also thinking my self.
I will answer a few questions which were asked. I am after an auto due to the fact after an accident I can now no longer drive a clutch/geared car as well as I would like. That is the main reason why I am selling most of my collection of TVR's.
Ref the question which car have I been driving lately, I presume by this you mean a performance car, well that would be one of the TVR's I am keeping, my 4.5 Cerbera, which is faster than a DBS but not quite in the same style.
Ref the coupe in Exeter for sale yes it's a bargain and low milage, but it's not the car I am after, my budget is £110 to £125K so I should find a good car with that, if my wife gets here way it will be a coupe, but as a staunch TVR owner I have the roof off even with the weather it's like to day, (Cold but sunny) So I am still possibly looking for a Volante! I noticed a couple of people were a bit against them, apart from the lack of sunshine, is there another reason?

I've not owned either, but like the Vantage, I personally think the coupe looks much nicer, and I'd get soft top thrills elsewhere. I'm sure more qualified people will comment.

My DBS came from Stratstone and the wife's DB9V from McGurks. Both experiences were excellent. As for coupe vs Volante, depends what you fancy on the day.......
