On a vaguely related note, now that AM are cosy with Merc, will there be a Cygnet based on the Smart/Twingo platform? They still need to get their fleet average down. Or will it be A-Class based, opening up A45 AMG options, for more fitting performance? Though that'd blur the lines more.

As for whether to buy one, it's a very expensive Toyota with the powertrain of a Toyota and I assume the suspension is largely unchanged, the outside looks a bit silly to me, but you do get a nicer interior, but whether it's worth the premium over a Toyota and really better than a decent spec 3 series or whatever else you get for a similar price, is up to you. Some jealous people might judge you for it but fcensoredk 'em tongue out

totally agree with the above and my car is a good example 1300cc IQ, one previous owner 62plate with 11k miles £6100......the Cygnet would be 18-20k .....however I would say that the Cygnet seems to holding its price better !

Interesting, not sure what the depreciation in the first few years, you'd expect it would have been steeper, but I suppose now the limited numbers and slightly specialness maybe pay off? It's still a relatively fresh car, not sure they'll be worth much more than the equivalent Toyota when they're 10-15 years old?
I can't imagine it ever appreciating hehe

Completely unscientific, but the three that are being advertised;

2013 = £24,500
2012 = £19,999
2011 = £14,995

The youngest car has the highest mileage.

That cash drop in two years, is greater than my Vantage.

Did the £15k one exist, or just one of the annoying wanted ads all along?

To be honest at under £15k I'd be tempted to get one. Bit of fun and can't see much of a downside from there.

good grief

My thoughts, I suspect that one is a red Herring.

Cygnet, has to be a future classic?

Great car, overpriced as a new product, concept incorrectly promoted initially (someone no longer there)The Ideal situation being, Vanquish for the weekends out of the city, Cygnet for the Traffic Jams and Crawling along in the City whilst sat in luxury and comfort. The best I heard as a reference, the Tender to the Yacht...

As for the interior, for information the interior requires as many leather hides as a Vantage to create.

So as a 2nd Hand Buy? has to be a consideration?

the 2011 id not available ...........12 months ago very low millage almost new Cygnets were up for £19995 to £22000 .....whilst it may be unscientific, it's a fact that prices have stabilised and in some cases gone up

Whilst visiting Works i was in the back bit. Walked past a Cygnet.....comment from a employee "mmm, less said the better about them"!
I understand the small city car concept but it should of been left to the usual suspects (Toyota, Nissan etc). Was there a need for AM to jump on the band wagon? Probably not and i think it was more to do with letting those rich wifeys having a smaller version of rich hubbys. Im dont know of the costs but using the Toyota base car kept the development down and ticked the box for Dr Bez's Bucket List.

Bit more to it than that.... The only original panel from the donor car was the roof.

Yea but the chassis is the same, the body panels aren't really load carrying, they're easy to swap out and the whole suspension, powertrain and ancillaries are directly from Toyota.
Probably the doors are identical except a very slightly different curve to the skin.

IIRC £7.5M impairment charge on last years accounts to finish it off.
Cheaper to burn it with fire! laugh

so a bit more than £50 then smile but in motoring terms .....not much more smile my IQ is a good car but to pay a 300% premium to have a Cygnet is a joke

You can put lipstick on a pig...

Cygnet is the best-ever example of everything that is bad about badge engineering. To take a cheap Japanese city car (how good a car it is -- and it's a good city car -- is irrelevant), stick the Aston Martin grille and badge on it and call it an Aston Martin is an affront to a great marque, and its iconic grille and badge. Everything about it is appalling. Bez even had the stones to call it "as authentic" an Aston Martin as a DB5. Shameful.

But they stuck different body panels and Mazda lights on an XJS and people seemed ok with that.
