I hope you are right Jonby - would make a great deal of sense but just imagine if you were off to Geneva to see the GT3 being launched as the star of the show (having ordered one) and the Vulcan is as you describe it might take the shine off your order which would be a real shame. They will both be fantastic cars I am sure cannot wait to see them.

I am up at the factory next Thursday and wonder if there is a chance we will get to see one of these? Doubt it but it you can always hope.

agree although I suspect one will be 4 times the price of the other !

Having seen the exact wording of the (very brief) public press release, the 'motorsport inspired' makes me think maybe not about DP-100 - really not sure what to expect

I've just heard the price - I think it's fair to say the two cars are far enough apart that it won't be an issue. Incidentally the new McLaren 675LT sounds very exciting (and similar in some ways to the new GT3) and that's launching at Geneva with the P1 GTR (which Vulcan sounds very similar to) whilst Ferrari will be launching their 458 replacement the 488 and possibly, showing their track only version of the LaFerrari so there could be 3 incredibly similar pairings at Geneva

I have to say though that I'd be staggered if the track Aston is as quick as the roadgoing P1 & LaF, let alone their track versions, so I'm not sure what the USP of the Aston will be - is their driver training programme really going to be equivalent to or better than Ferrari or McLaren ? So my guess is that to make it sell, this car is going to look unbelievably wild as otherwise, I can't see them selling any - it's a really strange market when you don't get to take the cars home and only get to drive them half a dozen times a year at special meets. So again, maybe some other USP, such as talking part in a one model race at the Aston GT race meets ?

What are you at the factory for btw ? Anything exciting ?

If Aston Martin do become involved in the track only car market ('we look after your car, and bring it to the track for you'), one thought occurs to me.

At present, the Aston Martin track days can be enjoyed by confident enthusiasts.

I know there have been a few serious racers on this forum, but do you consider the track only market, requires customers who have both the ability to buy, and also the ability to race?

I does seem very small numbers, but probably a very different customer profile from the present one.

Of course one possibility for them to differentiate themselves is if this car does have support for specific events, but is in fact a car that you can take home & track without the factory whenever/wherever you want

As you say, FXX is a very serious programme, that involves more than a bit of basic driver tuition

Vulcan is going to have to be something special to outshine the P1 GTR also being revealed at Geneva in March, also a track only car, at a similar price bracket, with similar production numbers

I'm struggling to see how Vulcan can have been developed from an engineering/R&D perspective as well as P1GTR, so I guess it needs to look truly, truly stunning

Aston's latest statement on Vulcan in relation to Geneva is: Aston Martin Vulcan is a breath-taking race inspired beauty that simply must be seen in its carbon form.

It certainly sounds exciting....(the description that is, although the soundtrack of the engine sounds pretty good too !)
