Hey chaps,

I've scoured the forum, but can't find any info on the issue below.

Got in my car last night, drove to work, all ok. On arrival at work, when I locked the car the driver's side folding mirror didn't fully close. Passenger's side operated normally, but the driver's side moved about an inch, then stopped. I tried the L&R buttons, mirrors both opened up fully, then when they closed again, exactly the same thing. I can hear the mechanism running in both mirrors, which runs for the same amount of time in both, so it's as if the driver's one starts to move on the motor, then the motor keeps running for the correct amount of time, but the mirror possibly jams on something when closing which makes it stop after approx an inch of movement. eek

Any ideas or anyone seen something like this before?

I tried folding the mirror myself after the motor had finished, to see if I could feel/see a blockage, mirror folds fine and I couldn't see anything, which makes me think it might be inside the housing? After folding fully in myself, it doesn't open on the power fold, I had to open it fully manually again, but the power fold function still has exactly the same issue.

(I've had the problem with one window not moving before on door opening, window reset trick worked perfectly, so wondered if there's anything like that for the mirrors, or any ideas on how to check if there's a blockage inside the housing etc?)

All help greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Further playing around with the mirror has revealed all was not as first thought -

The mirror mechanism does not run for the full period, it only runs long enough for the mirror to move about an inch for closing, then back the same distance on opening, so I'm not sure it's jamming on anything after all.

I also spotted that the driver's side window wasn't moving on door opening/closing either. Did the window reset, no luck. I'm suspecting the door module.... I've just done the 'soft' reset of removing the fuse for the driver's door module, followed by a window reset, which has solved the window issue, but the mirror problem remains.

I plan to attempt the hard reset of the door module by removing the door card this weekend (as listed here - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Thanks very much, DangerMonkey) and I'll see if that solves it. In the meantime, if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know, I'm open to all options! Really hoping a new door module/ mirror mechanism isn't required....

Spooky.....mine started doing it about 2 days ago on my 2008 4.7. Passenger side, drivers worked but either the pax side doesn't do anything or moves a inch then stops. I'm away now, back to Afghainistan for my 3 month work stint but Works will service it in Apr so I'll get them to look at it then.

I had a similar problem, but in may case the mirror would sometimes not unfold all the way. Was replaced under warranty.

I had this a few times, it was simply grime build up for me - so I cleaned / lubed the contact area between the moving mirror / arm.

Thanks for the info guys.

I've just done the 'hard' reset on the door module, relatively straightforward to remove the door card etc. This had no effect, so I took the mirror glass off and cleaned up behind it (probably not necessary to do behind the glass, but I thought I'd do it all whilst I'm there) and removed the entire housing using the two torx screws hidden behind the mirror (visible when folded in either direction) and gave it all clean there, now working!

They no longer fold on lock/unlock, but I believe this requires a re-flash of the door module by a dealer/ Indy, so I'll get that done the next time it goes in.

Cheers!
