I believe that they have to have this segment so that when it's sold to commercial networks they can cut it out and put the adverts in
That would make sense I suppose but where I am they simply cut the show anywhere, show some adverts for yoghurt and then you're straight back into it, no fades, no music, nothing. I'd almost rather have adverts than watch Ed Sheeran learn to drive!

I see that the guy involved has refused to press charges.

You watch, he'll probably end up working on Top Gear Mark 2 on C4.

On my roadtrip 18 months ago in my previous 4.7, AstonNav put me here:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@45.847881,9.383553,...

The tunnel at the bottom was OK for original minis and mopeds but the AM wasn't getting through. I only had to reverse maybe 40m but to get the clutch to bite on such a crazy incline without stalling took some revs and a fair bit of feathering...... the stench was awful, once turned around we left the car sit for 5 minutes to allow the clutch to cool, the clutch felt odd driving out of the town in the morning but settled back down afterwards...... fecking Aston reverse ratios!

Guy Martin and Chris Evans and Steve Coogan would make for a good three for the show and blow anything that the Clarkson Chronies might throw out.
The programme still had its good bits and its not so good bits. It was a lot more watchable than most of the car related drivel on television. One of the many factors which made it a success was the perception that Clarkson was going to say exactly what he thought PC or not. Likewise if you met any of the TG lads they were exactly like they came across on TV without trying. There was a genuineness about it, along with an ability to laugh at themselves which other programmes just don't have, including American TG.

Fundamentally, without C, M & H, the old programme is gone. That means that the format is gone too. You couldn't continue Morecambe & Wise with Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie barker, and vice versa. They should look at a totally different format, and clearly, the chances of coming up with something equally successful is on a par with winning the lottery. And most BBC productions, let's face it, are ste.

Of the competitors, Fifth Gear is like amateur night at a scout camp. They are all jolly nice people trying terribly hard but unbelievably conventional. There is zero sense of irony. Guy Martin trades constantly on his eccentricity and very little else. You really wonder if he is the full two bob. British eccentric goes to the arctic; British eccentric helps build a Spitfire. 'I really love servicing trucks'..da de da de da de da...Tedious and repetitive. Coogan is a rich actor who likes cars. That's good for about 15 minutes. And the Ginger Whinger is neither funny nor interesting. Jay Leno is smooth, watchable, and has charm, but he is not going to be arsed doing some of the stuff the TG trio got up to. As someone once said of Roger Moore a breeze can become wearing if it never lets up. Quentin Willson is a personality and a funny man, but he can't carry it off on the TV. The programme he is doing with Jody Kidd can only be described as very clunky. He can be good, and is a great road tester, but I don't think that Chris Harris has enough to say to carry a programme. And please, for pity's sake, no-one suggest Noel Edmonds.

This does not punish Clarkson it punishes us for watching him. The whole incident was a storm in a teacup which should never have got to the stage it did. Let's face it, and they should too, the BBC have just burnt a colossal amount of taxpayers cash to make the wrong point badly. They would be better to just pack it up before they burn a whole lot more and embarrass themselves and us into the bargain.

Meanwhile, C, M & H will probably show up shortly on some other channel, though presumably they will need to come up with a different format.

I see Quentin in the playground every week when picking up my daughter from school. Seems like a miserable sod in real life too

It's a shame Quentin doesn't work. He's close, has a lot of knowledge and believes every word he says! He also proved you can't be an Exec Producer as well as a presenter. Its the EP that creates and pitches the 'on screen talent' and 'has a word' over dinner usually about issues. Those two might enjoy being on the sofa but it just kills it.

TG was becoming unwatchable, a parody of itself. That ambulance complete episode was kindergarten stuff. I loved JC's hate of PC though and fearless prodding of those that needed it, however it often got too close too boorish bullying which is poor form. He's no handy fighter either so may well have been floored by many of us who have learnt to stand up to bullies, even hungry ones!

For me content is king (Chris Harris - all trousers no mouth!) and there always will be content!

JC has had an £8m format fee buyout from BBC Worldwide years ago so he's fine!
