It's a toughy Bob, as some that have frequented other days will not want to over use their P&J on track due to the wear and tear; specifically those CC brakes......

When you add up the additional wear on tyres / brakes, a track day can have a negative effect on the old wallet. Throw in an overnighter and a few tanks of the old fossil fuel, it may put some of the regulars off more than 1 per annum. What we need is new blood

Not wishing to be defeatist but the take up rate is somewhat under the level I was expecting and that we need for this Track Day to happen. Lets see what happens over the coming weekend and see how its looking then.

its not so much new blood, as a grid full of V8's is what's needed imhoThe wallet worrying problems and eye toward consumable spend you rightly state from natural wear is by and largely the reserve of the dbs / v12v. Dont get me wrong, Lance was the daddy and dbs and v12v are wonderful cars, but track use which will always wear any cars consumables is getting into the subtleties of ownership and enjoyment between the flavours.
V8 guys go on track days and responsibly hack around carefree (unless you are in their review mirror, which of course wont be for long).
V12 guys have tyres, ceramic brakes and if manual, clutch worries probably concerning them more than the brutish power taking them off track.
The beastly V12's chew tyres, overheats / wears brakes (Hi Nick) and if clutch wears (not normal) as jonby states, is close on £5k for that part alone from dealer. Whereas £5k on a V8 will buy set of tyres, complete set of brakes and OEM clutch with enough spare change for a service (clearly at indie).
Teaspn (hi William) has a number of track days under his belt, the close on 500 bhp / 525 nm torque of that V8 vs 510bhp / 570 nm of the v12 means the V8 is more or less equal power to weight ratio, so the 'right' V8 because its not unwieldy, is as quick (if in right hands) lap time without the consumable spend / up keep.
of course there is always the exception, V12 Blofeld (hi Dave) blows his dbs mate away and the steel brakes just keep saying, give me a condition on the way home and i'll be good for another day, and another, and another.
yes, i agree with you that the number of track days probably is starting to mount up consumable spend for some. And (imho) the V8 is the answer for the track, but you wouldn't pick anything other than a car like Vesuvius for a long distance Euro GT hack in style (hi bob)

TBH the circuit should be a great experience but the geography may be a problem for some. Being on the south coast its quite a bit of a journey for most to attend - so its either a 2 night stay (gets expensive) or a long drive after a track day which is not ideal.Just my thoughts before I opted in.
From new the tyres on Vesuvius have 4336 miles on them (I do not pootle), they have done 3 Track Days taboot and will be good for Goodwood without doubt. Most of our Track Day drivers are out on track for maybe 4 or 5 20 minute sessions max,,,its enough to satisfy the need to feel the real power that your p&j can deliver "legally" and enjoy it along with other like minded astonauts. Not to mention the thrill of driving on some iconic tarmac,,,
Owning an Aston Martin isn't about fiscal prudence is it, its something one feels compelled to do and for me, part of that experience not to be missed, is the sheer exhilaration of taking Vesuvius into 3 figures 'safely and legally' on a race circuit, unforgettable,,,oh yes,,,,bring it on.

It's a bit awkward to start, but when we get together we realise we all like the same things and are pretty similar and are in love with the same woman (Aston/cars).
I think we all weigh up the pros and cons. Long drive (3.5 hours each way last time). Wear and tear. Might put some stress on the brakes (goodness, even my carbon ceramics that have lived a pampered life in London, like a little run out now and then!)
But at the end of the day, whether you drive an Audi or a Cobra, its all about the enthusiasm. From my point of view it's about the people that drive the cars.
So far my Aston has helped me meet some smashing people and do some truly memorable things. Small things, but really great.
I even met a solicitor and an accountant who was a really crazy fun guy! Not met the undertaker yet, but I'm still young (and alive!).
So, V12 or V8, get your Aston out there.
To Goodwood or Hever or somewhere in between...the sun is shining and the wide-eyed kids (that's us) are looking to see some truly super cars.
And have fun.
Cos money can't buy happiness, but it can buy an Aston Martin that you can drive, and that's a pretty damn special and lucky place to be.
